Virgin from Australia
I was just wondering, with all this talk of AO/QF and JQ, does anyone reckon there's a market for Virgin to operate trans pacific/asian routes from Australia in the future?

Virgin Blue/Virgin Atlantic/Virgin Group has its own loyal band of followers. Not sure if there is enough to make SYD-LAX worth doing.
However with Patrick Corp (freight company) as current majority owners of VB and Toll Holdings (another big freight company trying to takeover Patrick) you would have to wonder how much money could be made on the freight side of the equation.
Also at this stage Jet* wont be competing against QF on the lucrative SYD-LAX sector which would be another plus for Virgin Blue/Virgin Pacific (still no idea what the name will be).

Now now Shlonghaul its a bit early to be making such jokes... the demise of AO is the demise of the best part of the QF group by far
Good luck AO-lians, I hope it all works out for you guys

There are sooo many rumours going around about this.....I am currently on the VB/VA exchange in the UK and the stories are coming from this side of the world also. Virgin 'Red' will supposedly be up and running from next June - SYD-LAX, SYD-SFO, SYD-NRT......no doubt just Galley FM but any more confirmed reports as yet?? Who will crew this airline?? No doubt a completely new operation knowing Virgin.........

They have formed a project committee who is looking into all of it - they are saying about 6 months before they are going to make any real decisions on what to do... but I would say its a fair bet that it will be east coast oz (and not necessarily SYD for that matter - BNE would be a good place to start from, given the existing crew infrastructure thats already there, not to mention more flexibilty with departure slots etc) to SFO/LAX and probably HKG/PVG/NRT in time
Bring it on I say - although its anyones guess as to who will crew it - a contract company is highly likely

In the recent FAAA forums it was made mention that CAP 371 has the ability to cover domestic as well as international flying. This is possibly just a selling point but it would be good if the people who made Virgin Blue what it is got to make Virgin Pacific as good.
Awaiting the flames from all the knockers.
