Anthing about Australian Airlines

I am making this post for anyone who has information or rumours about Australian Airlines.

Can either be positive or negative comments, thanks

I have had a recent interview with AO and still waiting results.

Not too sure on the crew you spoke to who didn't "sell" AO too well to you, though I must admit, anyone who finds a 7 hr flight to Japan hardwork with a plane full of Japanese in my book, must be bone lazy. They would have to be one of the easiest flights we do.

As for it being hardwork at AO, I beg to differ. Take into consideration you get a break on all flights, with exception of CNS/SYD, the flying is quite easy. I'm guessing a lot easier than other types of flying out there. Namely regional flying, with multiple sectors and less than 24 hour layovers.

And as for spending sh!t loads on our 3 day layovers in Japan. It is all relevant to what you do on your layover.

I can easily get away with spending 1000 yen a day. (Equivelant to about $12.00 AUD). If you think that is expensive then I have no idea what part of the world you are living in. The above cost will buy you salad, 2l bottle of water, rice balls, sushi, and other eats and treats. If you wish to drink alcohol, you would then need some more cash, though, not a lot as booze is cheap to buy from convienence stores.

Just wanted to give you another perspective on your current view.

Sorry to hear you didn't get through this time round. Do keep trying if it is what you want, I'm sure you will make it.

Have a great night,

'We dont work very hard at all at Qantaslink" well you dont work for Eastern do you? I think you should be more specific when you use the word Qantaslink as they are lowest paid and hardest worked of any division within the QF Group.

Look you didnt get in cop it on the chin and move on, apply again just as I did, it took me quite a few times before I was successful in getting into Qantas.

Raver, you're making me hungry!!!

Any idea how long it'll be before AO recruit again? By the time they got around to updating their web site, I was sick with the flu and missed the web page... it was closed by the time I got to it!!

Sorry for making you hungry Skysista!

Bummer you had the flu and missed out on applying.

I don't know when they will be next recruiting, though I have heard rumors, and rumors only that it will be towards the end of the year, round November. Don't quote me on that though.

Good luck for next time.

I actually think you'll find that award goes to Jetconnect, who work upto 185hrs per 28 days, for 4 weeks AL, get paid $24000, have little staff travel and all in a 2 class 737 with 3 or 4 crew, where the average day is 10+ hours long!

TRG......AO facts

one way to Osaka mid 2k??????????????

if you go on to the QF website a one way fare CNS to KIX on AO is around $1295

I would like to know what the people who told you we work really hard at AO did for a living before AO.. we are rostered for a maximum average of 105 hrs per 28 days (this roster i do 93hrs) ... thats about 26 hours a week ( in reality its less than that)... yes we do have some long days.. eg... DPS-SYD-CNS... 1130 duty... but that would only happen once a month and it is half you weeks work.

You can spend as little or as much as you like on overnights..
yes Sapporos can be expensive if you want to stay on the mountain hire gear and ski for a couple of days in powder at one of the best ski locations in the world .. as a lot of crew do.. or you can go for cheaper options such as day skiing trips from our hotel... If you are on a stict budget and just want to feed youself as Raver said you can do that very cheaply in Japan.

As cabin crew Im averaging about 950 to 1000 Take home pay a week... not bad for 25hrs a week "work" this does vary from month to month depending on the type of trips you get but that would be my average over the last 12 months

No worries Raver, just reminded me how long it's been since I had good sushi... imagine being able to go "hmm, I feel like sushi.. think I'll bid a Japan.."

Okay. I won't hold you to Nov We all know how that went last time... so I'm guessing around April next year then!!

Hi.

Galleyhag: no I do NOT work for Eastern/Sunstate (do the math) and yes last month's pay I did some hours (over 140 DUTY hrs for the month) which saw me earn a nice tidy sum in the mid $5k's after tax, and I did 4 hr days each day, mind you I was away from home 70 hrs at a time on 3-4 day trips, if you call sitting by the pool in a hotel, or catching up with friends in a port "work" well yes I worked VERY HARD Anyway lifes pretty easy, l8r

Trolleywally: My mistake, last time I looked they were in the $2k's mid, maybe it was Fukouka (dunno A/P code sorry) Yeah that $$ is just a bit less than my usual at the Link, but not really about $$ cheers mate

trolleys_r_go,

Nice to see that over at NJ you're earning the big buckaroos for only 4 duty hours each day on 140 hours total a month. I'm a bit puzzled though as to how that equates since there are only a maximum of 31 days in a month. (31days x 4hrs = 124hours .. and that's assuming no days off - you do get days off don't you?).

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that you didn't get the AO job, since you're obviously in a much better position over there.

Hi sydgirl, average 4 hr flights, that was a big month I mean u often get extended, but on a good month (I like being @ home ) you will do 5 trips of 3-4 days or so and YES!!! plenty of days off, as I said that was an exception, like next month I am rostered 113 hrs, which leaves room to move, 70hrs away from home at a time per trip is the norm, and this is where you make the $$, heck if we didn't do overnights you'd be better of at woolies mon-fri on your checkout, yeah all good and we get new toys to play with soon too. Cheers

Trollies-are-go,

What a glamourous life you lead.

You are right though....

I think I would rather stay at Qantaslink/NJS with NO STAFF TRAVEL, NO CAREER PROGRESSION and sit by the pool in ALICE SPRINGS and drink cocktails.
Rather than...

AO
Singapore - Shopping, Partying with the QF,BA crews
Sapporo - Snowboarding in the best snow I have ever seen
Bali - Surfing, Shopping, Partying, Relaxing, Massages
Hong Kong - Shopping, Sightseeing, Disneyland

Quite a few overnights at AO are long slip times. Many of the crew jump on JQ asia and Air Asia flights etc and visit other cities on their overnights. It keeps life at AO very fun ! AO will be on track to make a profit for the financial year end.

Just because you didn't get the job - don't get sour grapes.
As galleyhag said you need to keep trying.

Keep smiling

Partying with QF/BA crews in Singapore? Yeh right.... Haven't seen or heard of anyone doing that yet!

But truly, AO is one of the last full time flying gigs in Australia. Everyone is full time and we will soon have the opportunity to change to part time. The pay is quite good, and conditions aren't that bad. It is a great team of people to work with and, apart from a few petty complaints, is a nice working environment. The positives far outweigh the negatives.

I would encourage anyone to apply but before you do come to terms with the fact that we are a very cost conscious airline and the fact that there may never be a chance to transfer out of Cairns. If you can deal with that then you will love it!

Hmm lets see TRG.
You're obviously CNS or DRW crew with those sorts of hrs and the attitude that you don't work hard.
Lets have a look at PER base for a moment shall we?
We're working our asses off. I did not have 2 days off in a row until the end of last week. I am at 150hrs for the month and I still have a res day that they haven't used me on.
My roster for next month has already gone to 140hrs - the day after it was issued.
We regularly do 1030 duty days. Get ****ty minimum rest overnights. Get extended constantly. Drafted on 2 of our days off - and often more!
You sit back there my pretty one and reap the rewards that all the others that have been there for many many years have fought hard for. Enjoy your 4hr duty days. Think of us PER crew who work hard for the money we earn - and I can tell you what it's NOTHING near what you "lazy" buggers earn up there.
Enjoy it while you can because from what I've been hearing, your base isn't going to be around much longer! Then you can learn what hard work really is!
Now. Lets get back to the original topic.
Sounds like AO is the way to GO!
Give me a job there any day!

Hey TRG and Cart Tart, if you want to go at each others throats or compare hours on rosters then set up your own thread for NJS.
The theme of this thread is for the exchange of info. on Australian Airlines.
Leave your "dick measuring" competitions out of this thread!
