PaMaBa,

please please have some sort of knowledge of Australia as you will look very stupid if you're working for an Australian airline and a passenger asks you about Australia and you don't know a thing. Not only will it make you look stupid but also the company. That is some advice for everyone going for an interview, at least do a bit of study on the country etc.

Hi Ozcabincrew..... Thank you thank you for the advise. I've been looking some things up, and I totally understand that you should know something about Aussie. Once again thank you

My interview is on Monday too. I am an Aussie so knowledge of Oz is something I do have!!

My mate is a cabin manager for BMI and has not heard many good things about Qantas here in the UK. The most important thing she said was that it is not actually QANTAS who employs you. Qantas UK has apparantly nothing to do with Qantas.... this is a concern for me, but I guess we will find out more at the interview. Secondly the pay is appalling. When NZ started out of Heathrow, hundreds of BMI crew applied. Now, with Qantas, hardly anyone has applied which makes me wonder.

Don't quote me on any of this, it's all hearsay tho

Good luck to all who have applied.

Over a thousand applicants this time round I believe...although I stand to be corrected.

Your mate's information is wrong. Qantas Cabin Crew UK is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qantas Airways. We have a number of ex BMI employees, so it can't be all that bad.

As for hardly anyone applying - well you couldn't be more factually incorrect.

If you are "wondering" maybe you should reconsider your application?

Hi I had my interview yesterday with Qantas UK, and luck for me I made it to the afternoon. I have to say the Qantas staff at the interview made everyone feel welcome and relaxed. I'm just waiting to hear how i didn't. If I'm offered a job (Fingers crossed) I will without any problem say YES. They really do seem a friendly bunch.

PaMaBa - good luck, you will need it. Don't be taken in with all the false smiles and pleasantries. You will find out what I mean soon enough.

linzikc - its a CASA height restriction as you are working on Australian registered aircraft.

Why do certain people have to 'hijack' every thread with their negative comments? It's been well documented before that certain employees aren't happy at Qantas UK and that others are, it doesn't need reiterating at every available opportunity.

Good luck to those of you with interviews.

What salary and benefits do they pay you? How does the package compare to any of the other airlines?

You will take home around £950 per month as a flight attendant. On top of that you get cash allowances at hotel. Bangkok £65 Singapore and Hong Kong depends on trip length but £100-120. You will normally work 4 trips per month.

BUPA health care (Basic plan) and staff travel.

I was earning more at a charter airline but Qantas pay around the same as Virgin Atlantic. Although at Virgin the staff travel package is way, way better than Qantas and you enjoy a wider range of destinations.

qflhr,

i really do feel sorry for you and worried that Qantas UK are employing people with attitudes such as yours to represent a great Australian company. There are enough crew already that whinge and take their job for granted, trust me there are thousands of people that would take your job in a flash. If you don't like it, leave, go to Virgin Atlantic. There are plenty if not 100% of Aussies that would've preferred for the jobs to stay in Australia for Australians, but instead they decided to employ the Brits/Europeans cos it's a cheaper alternative with the whole LHR base and a nice little working holiday for current Australian based crew.

Just a bit of friendly advice, i would cease the whinging and negative remarks about Qantas UK and start enjoying it, otherwise you will soon have some very disgruntled Australian F/A wannabes sending you some lovely messages. Unlike in Australia where it is VERY hard to get a F/A job due to huge competition for minimal jobs, there are heaps of airlines in the UK and Europe that you can fly for, if you don't like Qantas UK that much, go and work for one of them and give someone else the job that would actually enjoy it!
