Australian Airlines to fly ex Perth

Australian Airlines announced today they are going to fly from Perth to Bali.

Im not going to write the article as most of you have probably read it by now but this is great news. One of the initial targets for AO was to be flying from every capital city within 2 years. I know things change and there have been a few hic ups along the way such as war and SARS etc but AO have almost hit the target. Adding Perth to the schedule means they only have Adelaide and Hobart to go (excluding BNE cause OOL is closer to BNE than many outer airports in other cities around the world).

Congratulations AO, who would have thought. We seem to be the quiet achiever now that JetStar is the flavour of the media week. We are well alive and kicking and it,s still a fab place to be.

Bring on the MEL and PER overnights

Most people seem to think the PER flights will be a day trip ex DPS for AO crew. i.e - DPS-PER-DPS similar to the DPS-SIN-DPS day trip.

Probably cheaper to o/n crews in DPS than PER.

There are also now Beijing rumours around.

Of course! QF Skywalker, you have answered my question

My brain was fererishly ticking away trying to dechipher how AO was planning to fly PER- DPS without basing crew here...

but obviously as they fly there anyways... just a trip to PER and back, crew and aircraft are there anyways!

Makes sense now I have turned the brain on!

the Perth S/H base will eventually completely lose it's two
PER-DPS-PER services a week to AO, but as of November, Perth S/H will gain four services a week to Jakarta.

dps per dps

The
infomation I have is that the flights will go twice a week .. thursday and Saturday
depart DPS 1255 arrive PER 1625
depart PER 1740 arrive DPS 2110
So it would stand to reason that they would make this a shuttle for the crew overnighting in DPS.... 1155 sign on 2140 sign off a nice little 940 day

Rumour is the PER flights will be a shuttle from DPS, just as some SIN flights are. Rosters are now showing 4 nights in DPS with a DPS-SIN-DPS on one of those days so I imagine PER would be similar, just a longer duty.

Can anyone tell me the flight time between PER/DPS v/v?

How will crew now operate the MEL-DPS-MEL now that SYD-MEL has been dropped. Will crew be overnighting in MEL or will it also be a turnaround (Ansett style)?

MLF,

Currently Perth S/H fly

PER-DPS-PER on Tue sign on 1920 sign off 0520 (on wed)
PER-DPS-PER on Sat sign on 1130 sign off 2120

The Saturday day flight is usually a real killer, always full to the brim, staff wanting jump seats, very demanding day with lot's of kids and families. The Tuesday night is more relaxed, not as full load wise and generally a cruisey day at work.

Hope this helps out and you enjoy them

I guess we have to SAVOUR our long Bali trips while we can!!!

We already have catering out of DPS and with this possible new shuttle thing it's almost like having a second base for AO in DPS!!! We're going to have alot of crew in DPS if we have the DPS - PER shuttles.

The news is DPS MEL will leave around same time as now. MEL DPS will be an early morning service with Breakfast service. Catering should be done out of DPS. The a/c arrives around lunch time, then does DPS PER DPS. After that it should be on it's way back to SYD. I think the CNS SIN CNS times may change to allow for a shuttle to DPS. I also heard that there will be a huuuge savings made by catering out of DPS.

Somebody mentioned DPS MEL DPS as a duty. I think they could be correct.

I also think this is a start with PER flying. I can see HKG, SIN coming in sometime in the next few years, as those routes fit into the AO structure. eg tech crew limitations.

Happy flying all.

OOOOOH, I am shuddering at the thought of MEL-DPS-MEL ruturns. I've done it in the past and you are quite often physically sick, delerious and seriously considering whether or not this is ths job for you once you have done a few Bali returns. It's certainly not the flying I or anyone would ever wish upon anyone. Before you call me lazy, let me tell you that a 14-16hr duty is fine normally but when it comes to Bali it's a different story. These are arduous trips with arduous pax. We do a Bali now and cant wait to get off the plane, imagine turning around and doing it all again!! We used to do it at Ansett and it's not nice. 6 hours there and 6 hours back with minimum turnaround, yuk! But it's in the award and I think it just scrapes through.

That said, the EBA hasn't been decided yet and if this pattern is approved I dont want to hear a word of complaint from those that didn't support the union in negotiations.

To all AO crew, the talk lately seems to be about MEL overnights and then pax home. Anyone herd anything about this.
