KLM cityhopper LBA base....

Hi I have just been offered a job out of Leeds/Bradford as Junior C/C with KLM cityhopper. Was wondering if there was any fellow Ppruners who work for them and indeed out of LBA.

I am so thrilled at getting this position as it means I can stay this side of the pennines instead of going back to Manchester.

From the beginning of my application they have given me the opinion of being a very efficient company with all the corresspondance I have received etc....

I look forward to my four weeks training in Amsterdam!! +

Take care Hottowel

KLM Cuk

Hi guys,

Sorry for the delay in getting back.. just busy trying to sort things out for my petit sejourn in a couple of weeks.

Stuart Check you PMs, I apologise if it is garbled!!

Which base are you both applying for....? LBA is said to be very busy and expect to work out of MME and CWL as well. I saw a sample roster in the interview. Not sure what the max sectors are per day, but they are definetlely more than 2 per day LOL.

PM me if you want to know anything else!

Cheers, champagne and canopes, Holidays and Hannuke xx Hottowel xx

Hi all!......I am new to this site....and just giving it a try,.....was reading about KLC.....maybe I can help...as I work for them......well what can I say.....let me put it this way......if you have other options do it, you will join this airline at a very bad and difficult time.
All UK based crew will do a lot of nightstops in Amsterdam 5 days in a row and because you are "based" outside your own base LBA, everything will be minimum rest wich for you is I believe 7.5 hours, also you will fly 4 sector days and position on your 5th sector home to have 2 days off at your home base and be positioned back on the 1st available flight back to Amsterdam.
At the moment the LBA crews are only flying LBA-AMS-MME ( split duty)-AMS-LBA-AMS..........does this help you a bit?????.....don't mean to be horrible or put you off, but this is the honest truth...and you are on completely different contracts as the dutch crews....and service wise one last thing as of next month pax only get coffee, tea and water...like on all KLM europe flights......( need I say more) .......anyway take care and happy flying xR

If you wanna fly, fly.

Personally, I would jump at the chance of working with KLC. If they close the LBA base and indeed all of the other bases in the UK (which I see them doing in due course), you should be offered the chance of transferring to KLM Mainline.

This is, atleast, what happened with the Aberdeen based KLC/KLuk crews.

KLC might not be the BEST of places to be, but think of where it could lead.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your msgs and replies...?

Well I am happy to take up KLC as I am really happy to get back flying and have always admired KLMs image etc as a company on the whole... I remember being too young to fly and wanting to work for AirUK as they were a few years ago.
So I am going to go into this with a positive and open mind and study hard and enjoy the training and the experience of being out somewhere for 4 weeks....

If they did get rid of the LBA base I doubt I would be offered KLM mainline being new crew and probationary etc, but what a very nice thought nevertheless!!

Cheers Hottowel xx

well done on the job !!!!!

I work for MYT out of Leeds and a couple of the crew have said how difficult it is to get into KLC. To get into any scheduled airline is an achievment now as there are that many trained CC who work on seasonals for charter airlines would love to be in your shoes. I think a couple of the Number 1's are a little 'old school' and you will get some bad delays flying out of AMS everyday but they pay well and, if you want to, the chances of you working through the company to fly for KLM are high. So get to night school and learn the Dutch language !!!!

Have Fun !

.....and i missed your bit about the 4 weeks training in Amsterdam !!!

i had to do mine at the Ramada Jarvis in Leeds

KLC

Hi

Thanks Iain and Tenandie.
With regards to LBA I hope the KLC contract stays there for a very long time as I love being in Leeds, it's a great place to be and its one of the few schedualed to be based up here in LBA...

TenAndie, I used to fly out of LGW and MAN. I am new to Leeds, is there much of a crew lifestyle up here.... any drinking holes and regular haunts that you and fellow cabin crew go to? I am also looking for shared accomodation near to LBA as I live in the area but its not possible with public transport. I would be relying on Taxis etc etc....

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers Hottowel

KLM cityhopper LBA base....

hottowel,

Congratulations on your new job!

I worked for KLM uk/KLC uk/KLC for 5 years at various bases in the UK and in variuos roles including Cabin Crew. I really enjoyed those 5 years and I am sure you will enjoy your time with the company..

As far as I am aware (and I was there at the time) when the ABZ base closed NONE of the Cabin Crew were offered KLM 'Mainline'. The offer to relocate to another UK base was on the table and the company even toyed with the idea or having UK Crew based in AMS again but this never happened. We were always told that if you wanted to fly for KLM 'Mainline' you had to apply directly to them. This was the case in March when the ABZ finally closed anyway.

I really do hope they keep the remaining UK bases open as I still have a lot of friends at many of them.

Anyway, all the best. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Rooster.

Rooster, we seem to be getting contradicting information!

I used to work in a travel agency in Aberdeen before I became crew with BA. My KLM rep informed my that the KLMuk crew based in Aberdeen had been offered AMS Mainline contracts BUT none of them accepted.

And hottowel, you'd probably be surprised about what they'd offer you as a newbie. I wouldn't be shocked to see you get the same offers (excluding financial) as long-serving crew.

I'm sure the LBA closure (if it happens) is some time away still.

KLM cityhopper LBA base....

Eddy,

If only they had offered us the opportunity to operate 'Mainline', would have been a dream come true. I would have snapped their hand off, but alas no and i am stuck driving a desk these days!

You don't happen to know if 'said' KLM rep used to work at ABZ??

hottowel, as a newbie you will get the same offers and opportunities as everyone else, as Eddy has mentioned. Apart from the inflated wage packet

Hi hottowel,

There is not so much of a crew lifestyle as far as im aware. Think everyone is too busy and not enough hours of duty to go and get pissed !!! As far as your shared accom goes.....i do know somebody who is leaving in yeadon alone (2 bed house) and can actually see the runway from her bedroom !!!!! maybe thats too close for you but drop me an email and i will pass you her details.

Hiya Rooster!

I don't know if the rep used to work at ABZ. I don't believe so but don't take that to the bank!

Do you still work for the airline or with Servisair???

Eddy,

Unfortunately i don't work for them anymore. I started off life as a member of the 'Legendary' Servisair at the age of 17 so decided not to go back- I'll let you draw your own conclusions to that one.

I now work for one of the Oil Companies in Aberdeen (how original ) I have also been a 'North Sea Tiger' - i love that name!!

Hope the whole BA thing is going well!
