Danger The Truth About Bmibaby

Thought i would just tell you all about what its REALLY like to work for bmibaby. In the year that i was there this is what it was like:-

UNIFORM Whichever idiot thought up the idea of giving us all ill fitted T-Shirts, with black trousers (which magically turn GREEN after the first wash!) and a red puffer jacket did a VERY good job of making us all look like fools. You get no respect whatsoever from the pax (who look 100 times smarter than us anyway) and how embarrasing having to walk through the airport where the cleaners and airport porters also look smarter. The 'new' uniform is nowhere near as nice as we were expecting and certainly isn't 'stylish'!!! 75% would rather keep the one we're in!! And thats saying something. If you think of Asda getting a new blue uniform then u've got it! Lovely if you work for Asda, but not an airline!! Oh and lets not forget the back breaking rucksack which also looks pathetic! All in all its an embarrasment to wear both in and out of work (you wouldn't even wear it to do your painting and decorating in!!). You look unprofessional and basically look like tramp.

ROSTERS That sheet of paper they give you might as well go straight in the bin! Instead they should just give you a printout of the days they want you to work and thats it!! They can then tell you what they want you to do when you turn up for work.(which is what they do). You ALWAYS start on an early and finish on a late, and the last late can sometimes eat into your day off. You wont get another day off unless your off-duty is after 3am. Theres no fairness in the rostering, 1 person will have a month full of standby's and another person will have a roster full of double PRG's, GLA-AGP's and EDI-ALC's and maybe a standby somewhere in there. Standby's by the way you never get away with. For months we've been told that the rosters will be sorted, but so far nothings changed, and i doubt it ever will!!

CREWING About as much use as a chocolate fireguard!! They'll never try to help you out, but will always expect you to help them out. If your on a weeks leave they will try to ring you EVERDAY at 5am in the morning to try and sell your day off. Even when your abroad and the ringing tone is different they will still continue to ring and leave a voicemail!! They have a habit of 'forgetting' to tell you of any changes to your roster,e.g you could turn up to work one morning to operate a flight, when actually you've been put on a home standby!! The 'delay line' is useless, probably updated once a day, so you could turn up for work expecting just a 1 hour delay, when actually its delayed by 5 hours, so your expected to sit around the airport just incase the time is changed. We are apparrently having our own crewing and ops which MIGHT make things a little better.

NIGHTSTOPS: Officially baby crew do not do any nightstops (except an unscheduled one), however you could get a phone call at anytime to tell you that your off to Teeside for a week, or Cardiff for 2 nights, but even then you never quite know when you'll be coming home again! oh, and when you get to the hotel you might find that the hotel weren't expecting you and have no reservation for you!!

MANAGEMENT NEVER a manager around when you need one. Never communicate with each other. Full of promises that they cant keep!!

CABIN CREW There's alot of 'old school' lurking around in bmibaby with 'team leaders' who like to scare the living daylights out of new crew. Most of the crew are really nice, but at the same time theres alot of bitchiness and certain little groups who think there more superior than the rest. You've got ex-bmi people who are still bitter about the fact they had no choice but to move to baby if they wanted to stay at EMA. You've also got the 'original baby crew' who were the first people to move to baby when it first started up, who think that they still run the show (only some not all) and you've got the brand new crew who haven't got a clue about anything. 90% of the new crew are still only under 20!! At the end of the day we all have to work with each other and theres no need for certain people to go off on some sort of power trip!!

MONEY The basic for a team member is £10.500pa with sector pay of £8 per secter, despite how long the secter is! so you could earn the same amount of money doing a double DUB as you would doing a double PRG!! You also get 8% bar commission shared between the 3 operating crew, that is if LSG havent taken the money off you in descrepencies that are THEIR fault. You also get £18 nightstop pay with a pathetic £8 allowence which might buy you a couple of packets of crisps if your lucky!! You get no taxi pay or roster disruption pay!! If we did then all the crew would be multi millionnaires by now!!

OTHER STUFF The aircraft they use are ancient and going tech EVERDAY, if the crew report funny noises and smells then the problems are never normally found by the engineers, even though its quite obvious that theres something wrong!!
To work for bmibaby you certainly dont have to work 12 months for bmi at LHR, (like some have said) some of the recruitment days arent even done at Stockley anymore. There are 3 aircraft to be based at BHX at first with more to be added, and current crew are being asked if they would like to transfer before they recruit externally.
You dont get given any crew meals and if you are parked next to a bmi mainline aircaft down route its now 'illegal' for them to give the baby crew any food that they are going to throw away!!!!
The pax are vile especially on PRG's and IBZ's with pax who think its funny to slap the crews arses as they walk past. They have no respect for crew and treat the a/c like a pub!
Theres no fun in flying for baby and if you do it could ruin your thoughts about flying for life!!

There you go, thats the truth about bmibaby, im sure other crew have alot to add to this and im bound to have missed bits out. If your thinking about applying then please think twice!! I wish I had!

Oh come on Baby Poo its not all that bad at Baby i do agree with some your comments about crewing and rostering something does need to be done about that as it is equally annoying for us flightdeck crew to arrive for a flight to find our aircraft has gone tech and all the frequent aircraft swaps to try counter the delays . Hopefully things may improve when we get our own ops/crewing/rostering department well we can hope.
I have not seen the new cc uniform but has to improvement on the current one which i agree doesnt look very professional.
I don't agree with your comments regarding strange noises and smells whenever i've reported any faults i have found the EMA engineers to be very good but obviously some of the faults are very hard to diagnose when they dont appear all the time.
Regarding the behaviour of pax onboard i can't really comment except yes the IBZ and PRG pax seem to be most disruptive with the usual smoking onboard, heavy drinking and breaking the armrests.

Yes I agree that the engineers are usually quite good, however when your told that 'they cant find anything wrong' over and over again, it puts you off reporting any future strange sounds or movements. I know this is bad CRM, but at what point do you report a funny sound, smell or movement? If its the same noise you heard before then whats the point of reporting it??

N0_SPEED_RESTRICTION

Try this one --------->read a post fully before replying **in the year that i was there*** second sentence!! Im already out!

He he he baby poo, i think your post is hilarious and very accurate indeed. I do hope Mr D himself has read this!!!

There really is'nt much more to add, though i must emphasise on how vile the PRG punters are. There is nothing worse then trying to eat your dinner to the smell of eggy farts, why or why should we have to put up with this

Baby poo, in your crewing section you forgot to mention the word obnoxious, because thats what they are.... as well as being as much use as a chocolate fireguard

737james and no speed, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. You guys are obviously flightdeck so you get treated better than cabin crew and don't put up with the rubbish we get from the pax.

I think it's a disgrace that airlines treat people like this.

They don't deserve to have quality people working at this shoddy outfit. They will probably end up getting people working for them who can't get jobs at other airlines.

What a terrible repuatation they have for Cabin Crew.

THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!!!!!!!!!

most airlines are the same s**t different name on the side, most of the things i agree with in your post but EMA definitly has a reputation for being very 'clicky'

Just out of interest who are you workin for now? still flying after your terrible ordeal?

Yor right they dont give a toss!!! 'Burn them and Turn them' thats how they think!!! They dont expect people to stay for years and enjoy the place! They dont give a s**t how shattered you are or what plans youy might have! Your ass belongs to them, and just as you cant take anymore you leave. Then they ship in the next load. However, you will always get the old timers who previously worked for bmi and are too scared to stick up for themselves and will never leave because its too late for them, they know that they'll never get another job with another airline because their well past their 'sell by' date!

AIRBOY im not saying that any airline is perfect but some have a much worst reputation than others. Theres no need to treat your staff like a bunch of idiots, especially when its down to them if the company succeeds or not!
The cabin crew should teach the company a lesson but nobody ever will, you will always have people who will put up with any rubbish thrown at them because their too scared to stick up for themselves.

The whole company's just a CIRCUS IN THE SKY!!!

I went for an interview at LHR for the new base at CWL 2 years ago and they turned me down - probably because of my age and experience. All I can say is Thank God they did !!!

I hear many horror stories from Pilots and Cabin Crew about life in the Company. Is it any wonder they have a high turnover of staff!!!

Baby poo,
You sound like one bitter ex-employee of the airline. Did you jump or were you pushed?
There is no perfect airline to work for, they all have faults and staff who gripe about the conditions.
Maybe you see if 'Carlsberg' are thinking of starting and airline cos' it'll 'probably.....

Thanks keyboard flier! Your the perfect example of what im talking about. Someone who lets an airline walk all over them!! Nothing ever gets done because of people like you... with your 'oh well, lets not moan' attitude.
I agree theres no perfect airline, HOWEVER people should be able to see what s**t goes on behind the scenes, before they think about applying for an airline!
We're all entitled to moan and everything in my post is completely true about what goes on at baby!

I have to laugh at all of this...... I worked for Qatar Airways and almost all is basically the same!!! Only dont be fooled, Qatar Airways was a full service airline so dont think its restricted to just you No Frills bunch!!!

Oh and let me add....

Baby poo...I can think of one major carrier who are looking for crew so pop onto their website...Its the one with the blue and red wavey thingy on the tail...Iv been with them about 8 months and having a ball...Im sure you would have no problem..god knows you deserve it!!!

Keyboard....I suggest you read articles for the information thats in them and not just so you can have a go to get one over on another ppruner!!! Or are you just one of these plane spotters at the end of the gatwick runway who never quite made it with an airline!!!

Baby Poo,

maybe you'd like to trade places with me. Graduated from flight school last December, and still job hunting. Did I mention I'm being chased through the woods by HSBC reps as well? So quite frankly mate, it doesn't matter how bad you think it is - THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEBODY WHOES WORSE OFF THAN YOU!!!!!!

Well I can tell you now there are some descent airlines out there to work for. I'm not suprised Baby Poo is bitter after working for a crap outfit like WW. Who wouldn't be? Look at the state My Travel have got themselves into! This is due to poor management from the top right the way down to Cabin Crew managers. A great group of crew who are treated disgracefully by management spoiling what could be a very nice job and a great company.

I have worked for a few airlines all very different types of flying and glad to say they are not all as bad as each other. The grass is greener, it's just a case of finding the right one.
