A380's

Whats this talk about the A380's coming short haul way?! Don't think so, like someone else said, we can only operate 3hrs from an Aussie timezone....or will this change with the next EBA?

We joined shorthaul cause we like to be home, our job isn't our life...day trips, 2-4day trips are ok but as for operating long haul routes thats what you guys do, not us!

I personally think the striking - especially for the one day in Nov is a waste of time. Unless you are in for the long haul (excuse the pun!) for striking then you wont hurt the place one bit - just my 2cents worth!

Sima,

The only way short haul could operate the A380 is if the next EBA changes the clause re: 3hr time zone limitation.

No doubt the company will try to expand this to more zones East/West of AEST. Of course the crew will have the chance to vote yes or no to the next short haul EBA.

Just be very careful how you vote. Read the draft EBA fully and carefully, do not realy on the short haul FAAA to give you a balanced view. This was obvious last EBA when the overiding reason for them to promote a yes vote was due to financial payments coming from QF.

FYI - the strike isn't until December, that will last more than 1 day I can assure you.

However, on November 18th a large amount of crew will call in sick which will disrupt the network and lose the company a lot of money.

The idea of a mass sick day came about from British Airways crew, read this article

Are you saying the FAAA received financial payments from QF for our yes vote in the last EBA? What sort of financial payments did they receive?

Yes I am but can't give any more details. Some people on here know who I am.

Lets just say new offices cost money to set up.

If you have details and facts which are true, why don,t you post them. You can't be sued for telling the truth.

Fact is you do not have any facts.

You have not got any facts. Info like that would not be considered private.

You seem to be confusing prudent use of members funds with corruption. Rent Vs buying. It's pretty simple really.

The S/H division has a long and proud history of owning their own property.

If the L/H division purchase a property in the future, will you acuse them of being on the take.

Put up or shut up. If you pi$$ into the wind you sometimes get wet.

I never mentioned the misuse of members funds. Yes the s/h division does own their own property. Amazing how a promise of cash (to help pay for new property) can influence the reps to promote a yes vote.

Part of the reason a group was formed to promote a no vote. Everytime we did something to promote our cause we were shot down by the s/h union reps or the company removed any material left in the crew room in Sydney as quick as it could be photo copied.

Sorry but Darryl and Jo-Ann should be voted out by the members at the earliest opportunity.

...and yes the company and the s/h union wanted to keep it very private.

If you had details of secret payments you would go to the press.

The fact is you have no facts or details.

Put up or shut up. Go to the press if you have the b@lls.

Uz32 - on viewing your past posts and your fanatical views of the short haul union I can only assume you are a rep for them.

Not sure why you would think I should go to the press. Anyway this is off topic so back to the topic of Qantas attempting to move jobs offshore.

Because what you are suggesting is illegal. IE secret payments.

If you wanted to STR you would go to the press.

You don't have any facts and you are pi$$ing in the wind.

You have accused individuals of illegal action. Put up or shut up.

Explains A Lot

I have often wondered why the Company has tip toed around Shorthaul.Oh well thats the way the alliance crumbles.Unfortunately UZ32 has had his cage rattled and the emotional invective will now be vomitted forth.
Makes for passable entertainment tho`

Whats this talk about the A380's coming short haul way?! Don't think so, like someone else said, we can only operate 3hrs from an Aussie timezone....or will this change with the next EBA?

STR

the A380 will not go to short haul. Short haul crew can only fly international sectors within a 3hr time zone of AEST. Thats their EBA condition and they would not be willing to go any further than that.

My worry is, yes it stands in the current short haul EBA, but it is one simple line ... will most short haul crew notice the time zone clause when offered a great EBA next time around??

We strike, we lose long haul .... the division will be crushed ... that is my fear.... I can forsee long haul being a 747 only division, and by all press comments .... a fading one ... QF is looking to get rid of most of the B747 fleet...
The FAAA might think we will win the battle (over the Lhr base) .... but is that battle worth losing the 'war' over?
If we strike, I feel longhaul will be a dinosuar division, based on a slowly shrinking B747 fleet (similar to Flight Engineers) .... anyone wondered why the company is so desperate to transfer long haul crew to short haul at the moment? Why the rush to get all those Long haul crew to shorthaul (on a b-scale)?
In May the board will announce to go with the 777, or the A350 to replace the B747 in the long run ...complimented by the A380 (which with a little EBA wrangling can be operated by any division).
The FAAA are on the wrong trail .... instead of fighting a lost cause (ie Lhr base) they should be using it as a tool to gain assurances that long haul will continue to be a viable division of the company. EG whatever the aircraft, long haul crew will operate long haul routes.
My opinions only, but sh*t we are in real trouble here guys.
And the accusation that the short haul FAAA taking company money to set up offices?? Sorry, dont believe that for a second. STR if you think you really had that sort of (solid) info, you would at least take it to the ACTU....but no rumblings there.... you are a d*ckhead and a liar.

Yup we can 'stand-as-one' with the suicidal heads of the current FAAA, or we can negotiate for a continuing long haul division .... I know which way I will go...

Oh, and I am waiting with bated breath for STR or L2P's attack on me as 'management'....

But I am just looking it a bit more 'macro' than the FAAA's current 'micro' view of the situation..

My thoughts only, and no I will not be sick on 'that day', nor will I strike .... someone wise once told me " never enter a fight you aren't sure you will win" ..... I aint sure the FAAA will win this one, so I will continue on ... business as usual, no matter what the dorks at the FAAA 'direct'.

oh and lets NOT screw the Roo, they pay my bills

Of course short haul crew will notice a MAJOR issue like a time zone clause.

galleygossiper,

what a breathtaking attempt at scaremongering.

So if the FAAA dont go to the company begging and with cap in hand we at longhaul will lose the A380, A340/777 aircraft types to shorthaul?????

Give us all a break.............
Your desperate attempts to head off the upcoming industrial turmoil are just that.
Desperate and blindingly transparent.

Interesting to hear that NFI manager hassell is openly talking to crew about S.T.R. and the campaign it represents.

Qf would be far better off talking to the FAAA before it's Longhaul operation goes horribly pearshaped.

A little bargaining done in good faith, [as has been done in the past] might just be enough to convince crew that they are valued as partners in this business and not just a means of production/necessary evil.

At the end of the day QF's actions/inactions will be the determining factor.

We are not greedy nor unreasonable people but time, is of course, running out.

L2P "S.T.R".

galley_gossiper, I will let the name calling go. At least I am adult enough not to personally have a go at anyone.

Myself and 96% of the crew (who voted) believe we can win the battle over the increase in overseas numbers. This is not just about the LHR base. If we let this go next LA, Jo'Berg, wherever they want to open a base.

Yes the company have said they won't open any other base. But this time last year they were adament that a London base wasn't going to be opened.

As for long haul disappearing, I believe it will. Hassell mentioned he wants this to happen back in March. Eventually there will be one group of crew who can operate any flight. I don't have a problem with that but I'll be damned if we just sit back and let our conditions go down the drain.

Sadly, Left2primary has now been banned from this thread, and forum, following unwarranted personal attacks on moderators.

I imagine that it is unlikely that others might share his/her views, but just in case, for the record...
  • No CC Forum moderators are employed by QF, or are managers for QF, or have been offered employment by QF
  • No CC Forum moderators have any particular desire to be any of the above
  • No CC Forum moderators have a bias towards or against either side in the existing QF dispute
  • No CC Forum moderators will tolerate personal attacks

Thank God For Shorthaul

The arrival of ultralong sector aircraft I must admit was causing me some angst. The idea of flying on an A380 with 550 of my closest friends was not really my idea of having fun.Qantas Shorthaul have stepped into the breach. If their upcoming EBA gets rid of the time zone constraint clause,my worries will be over......they will be happy to do this type of flying.I can only hope that Playford and Watkins can spin doctor this into reality.I will be quite happy to see out my days flying on the 747.400.Some of these aircraft are only 5 or 6 years old and therefore have a great many cycles left.
GOD BLESS SHORTHAUL,I won`t have to fly from PER to LHR.Thank you, thank you thank you.
P.S I can do bulk deals on KY

From what I read of L2P's post before it was removed there was no personal attack on moderators, L2P was just bringing to your attention what other people had posted which was clearly against the rules of prune.

L2Primary

I Agree. While L2P has been somewhat verbose and at times overly passionate,in this case the moderators may have erred.
