BA pay

Hi guys!

Just a question, on top of that 9,200 odd basic is there a london living allowence on top of that?

What kind of pay would you expect to bring home each month if on the eurofleet?

£9,200 basic pay is really really bad, especially living near Heathrow being a very expensive place to rent ! You'll find out most of the crew are actually renting a big house of 5 bedrooms for like £1,800 and split the cost between them five, being approx £360 each, and that is if you are lucky enough to find someone serious, who wont drop out 3 weeks later...
To rent a studio flat in Hounslow, we are talking between £500 and £600 per month, so the best way of doing it is going for a rented bedroom, especially on those wages !! Apart from the basic pay, you get 10% on bar commission and an hourly pay, soy my guess is as main crew, you'll take home about £1,100-£1,200 per month... not very good hey ? It's amazing to say that a BA franchise company such as GB has actually got a higher basic pay of £9,609

ba pay

on top of basic pay cabin crew at lhr whether shorthaul or longhaul are paid allowances which are based on the country you are flying to,although they are all paid with you basic salary at the end of the month.depending on what sort of trips you have these can vary because some destinations are worth more than others,it also depends on the length of your trip as to how much you earn,on shorthaul some trips are there and back and some 2 or 3 day trips.we also receive different payments for short turnarounds, early reports etc.its quite an old fashioned system compared to other airlines who pay their crews hourly pay,but on the whole most of us are quite happy with it and we definately earn more than if we got paid by the hour, i think delboy@gb must be referring to shorthaul lgw crews who receive an hourly rate flying allowance,as far as i know any new entrants will be joining at lhr and we definately are not on an hourly rate

The whole pay thing is worrying me too! I was offered a poisition with BA too, but from my calculations, I'll barely have enough to pay for rent, bills and food, let alone a bit of money left over to spend on me.

I really want to work for BA, (obviously or I wouldn't have flown across the world to go for the interview!) but I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. What does everyone think??

hi,

Well it depends on the chances your willing to take. I know for a fact i will have to share accom and with being based at LGW, things may be just a little cheaper.

I'm going for it, think you should too. You dont actually get your wings till after 6 months so maybe its just a probationary pay that will go up when you get your wages! Who knows?

So you got offered the LGW long haul positions they were talking about!!

They haven't told me whether I'll be on LHR Eurofleet or the LGW long haul. Both have their good and bad points, but I think living will definitly be cheaper at LGW.

I've got a lot to think about and consider. Anyway, have fun in training everyone who has started already!

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the LGW positions were for long haul, cause in the presentation part, the lady said that there were a few positions from LGW for long haul, but that most of us would be placed at LHR on the Eurofleet so not to get your hopes up for a LGW long haul placing.

Maybe they're looking to place me at LHR since they've not told me anything about where they'll base me, but they've told you LGW people that you'll be based there.

More congrats

Hey Sarah!

Great news about BA!

The pay sounds crap, but it'll get better and quite frankly I'd be taking the job. London is a great place to live and sharing accommodation isn't so bad and BA has a good name (well from a pax perspective anyway). And the Queen flys BA, and I think if its good enough for her......

If ya don't like it, you can always come back to Australia.

Keep in touch and let us know what you decide.

Folks,
Just to clarify the situation for you...and this is direct from the Union after lengthy discussions with BA.

BA wanted to put some new entrants straight onto LHR Longhaul,as this fleet is short of crew at the moment. This obviously saves on extra training courses for people transfering from different fleets onto L/Haul.

Union said "No" as there are loads of crew who have been waiting a long time to get to LHR L/haul.

Has subsequently been agreed that 144 New Recruits put straight onto LGW L/haul...221 New Recruits straight onto LHR Eurofleet.
Shortfall on LHR L/haul made up from transfers from other fleets as per usual from transfer list.
If you've been told LGW...it will be L/haul.

Hope this clears up any confusion.

Hey Guys!

I start on the 10th too. Only received my STEPS TO EXCELLENCE last Friday, so I'm finding it tough working through those books in such a short amount of time!!! I will be LGW based according to my letter, which suits me as I live in Maidenbower!!! I'm worried about meeting up in the right place on Monday morning, i'll leave my house at 0700!!! I still haven't got all my uniform either, my trousers and coat are off to be altered and I'm still missing my tie, belt, in flight jacket and scarf!!!

Whoever is starting Monday, send me a mail, it'll be good to have someone to talk to!!!

Wee one,

Not at all "temporary".You will be replacing existing LGW L/haul crew who will transfer up the road.If you subsequently want a move or change of fleet..you will have to put your name down on the transfer list,as does everyone else. You'll be at the bottom of it mind,so it will probably be a while.

Used to be "Gatters" L/haul myself..had a great time there, the yearning to see a bit more of the world and the extra cash lured me up to LHR,however.

Enjoy yourself at LGW,they are indeed a great and unique bunch at Gatters...I have many fond memories of my time there.

Good luck on the course.

Thanx for all the info M just wondered why they earn more money at lhr is it the trips that they get? Is the LH generally better out of lhr?Do lgw work their a!?$s off and not much layover time compared to lhr, is that why everyone wants to transfer? Iam really looking forward to it but am just curious!!
Nosy parker!XX

Wee one,

It's all down to the trips. We have things called "box" payments on long flts.If your planned duty(the duty time printed on your roster) exceeds 12 hrs and 1 minute but no more than 13 hrs,you get a "Box 1"
If your planned duty exceeds 13 hrs and 1 min,but no more than 14 hrs,you get a "box 2" and so on up to a "box 5"

We get a "fixed" payment for these "boxes",the amount of which I'm not about to go into on this site, you will find these out when you start. This is on top of the allowances you get paid for the trip.

The simple fact is,that there are far more trips from LHR that generate these payments. LAX SFO PHX SAN JNB CPT SIN BKK HKG NRT MRU and a few others that escape me.If memory serves, only the IAH from LGW(outbound) generates a box 1.A list of all the trips from LGW can be found on another thread in this forum.

I also get a "back to back" trip pretty much every month from LHR,which although are hard work, are good earners.(Also get a fixed payment for a B2B on top of allowances)I only used to get about 6 a year from LGW.This may be different now.

I certainly wouldn't say that LGW work their A*ses in comparison.I for one find it a lot harder than at LGW.I have less time at home, which puts a strain on ones' personal life, the flights are in general longer, and the constant battle with jet lag going east one week then west the next is something that I didn't really suffer too much with at LGW.

That's not to say I don't enjoy it,far from it.I'm loving going to lots of places I've never been to before...and obviously the take home pay is considerably more, which pleases ones' bank manager.

It is a lot more "family" like at LGW though.I used to like going into briefings and knowing probably half the crew already as good friends.Lucky if I even recognise a face now, even then it's someone ex-LGW! Still, I'm a personably chap and make friends easily...problem is you don't see 'em again for a couple of years...if ever.

Yup mashie there's more tiring east and west trips at LHR and you don't get as many days off . Remember all those trips at LGW where you arrived 'bout 7am and that was still a working day ? I think the roster is much harder at LHR but you get the extra dosh, even if you have to put up with seeing your crew mates every 10 years !
