Height And Weight!
I have the EK interview coming up in London on the 4th November but I really nervous now about being weighed!!
I am 176 cms and weigh about 74 kilos. I am tall and slim but according to something I read on EK height/weight restrictions for my height - you have to weigh 68 kilos! Now I am
myself because I can't lose 6 kilos in time for the interview!
Does anyone know how strict this rule is? Will they not let me through for weighing more for my height? I am not overweight and have never weighed 68 kilos in my life as I have a large frame.
Please please can people reply and let me know! I am so stressed about this interview as I want this job more than anything!

They only weigh candidates that are usually from an Asian background as they need to be able to lift 28Kg and they can't be underweight.
I don’t think you will be needed for a weigh in with a sturdy eating country such as London.
They don't do weigh in's in Australia and Auckland anymore so I am guessing London would be the same.
STOP STESSING AND ENJOY YOURSELF
You have been through this before and you will be great. I am currently doing photo's and cv's for applicants here in Australia for the coming interview's and I wish you would all just relax for you will be wonderful.

Thanks Blondbomb, I just can't believe they can put weight restrictions on height like that. I am well within my ideal weight range. As you can see by Meisu's post though - it is worrying. I hope they don't do weigh ins. I just don't see it as being fair. Plus I can guarentee lifting a 28kg door as I do that at the gym every week 
Sorry to come across like such a pansy but it would be a killer if my career was on the line because I am heavy lol!

Something to be aware of: There is no discrimination law here. I know a girl who received a warning during training school for putting on weight. Job ads here are very specific eg. Secretary req. for multinational firm. Indian, pref Arab speaking, attractive, up to 28 yo single....... Get the idea?

Umm, not sure, but think you may have misunderstood the standards (they are based on BMI).
At 174cm height, the minimum weight is 64kg and the max is 76kg.
For a male you would be very athletic if you weighed less than 64kgs - you should be fine.
The whole purpose of the BMI HT/WT ratio is really to determine high risk of heart disease - the BMI is not a indicator on its own, but is taken into account amongst other factors.
Cheer up, you'll fly though it!

In my own opinion, I think weight and height are depend on each person body structure. I think if you have 174 cm tall, your minimum weight should be 64 kg and your maximum weight should be 76 kg as Ozskipper said. I think if now you have 176cm tall and 74 kg, it's also ok. Anyway, if you are still nervous about your weight, it had better to take more exercise in order to make your body firm and healthy instead. I think there is no need to lose your weight because it will make you look unhealthy and unhappy!!
For EK weight measurement, my weight and height are always vanished 1 kg and 1 cm. (In fact, I have 163 cm tall and 55 kg but during the weight & height measurement process of EK, I have 162 cm tall and 54 kg. Some of my friends, their weight is vanished 4-6 kg!!) so I think you don't worry or too serious about your weight !!!

Thanks guys. I am female by the way Ozskipper - just incase I gave the impression I was male! Your comments are valid though anyway.
Yeah I sometimes think it is a bit discriminatory. You are right about the vrigin blue girld. Each time I have flown the them - the hosties are beautiful, slim and fit into those brown pants quite nicely! I would never be able to get them on! nah just joking.
I am gonna hit the exercise - but the fact is - I have 8 days before my interview. If I don't eat for the few days beforehand just incase I should be fine. Every set of scales is different. And put it this way - if an airline is going to discriminate and not take me because they think I am too heavy - they are not of good enough standard for me to work for.

I don't think the airlines will eliminate you because you are too heavy. I think the weight is the thing that everyone can lose it so keep doing the exercise and eat more vegetable

I just wondered if they weight u on the ek interview in uk>there is loads of info about ek interview in BKK and SYD but there is second to none abot EK UK.I read ont the tread that they weight ppl in BKK to prevent of them being underweight

One of my friend,who works in EK ,said the weight is not the big problem with interview with EK . I also think so because most of applicants who are invited here and can pass the pre-screening, are quite chubby. Anyway, my friends also said EK likes plump applicants (not too slim and not too fat), this is maybe because most of Thai girls are thin. My friend is also quite fat but she is fat in a pleasant-looking way.

The cut of the EK female cabin crew uniform does little to flatter the figure of our girls as it is, to see young attractive girls bursting out of their uniforms after 12 months in the company because they've consumed one too many choc-chip muffins looks hideous, unproffessional and doesn't fit EK corporate image. Sorry to offend anyone, but if the shoe fits...
Don't like the brown "desert tan' uniform colour either, went out in the late 70's everywhere else on the planet. Purser uniform a vast improvement!

Hmm, well I've got my Emirates interview on Monday...if those height/weight tables are correct, then I'm seriously underweight, cause I'm 174cm tall and weigh 52kg's.
I can lift 28kg's fine, so if that's what they're worried about, then I should be fine!

weight/height proportions
Does anybody know if the height/weight in proportion rule stated by most airlines when recruiting cabin crew is a CAA regulation?
Obviously it does have safety implications if somebody is overweight and unfit but I was wondering whether it is up to the airline to decide this or whether it is a rule from above them?
Just a thought as I don't know of any other job where height and weight are of such importance, would I'm sure be seen as discrimination in any other job!

Not sure what the law is in the UK, but Down Under an employer is able to place certain requirements on an employee for reasons such as safety.
For example, some airlines state that FA candidates be of a certain height - as they need to reach emergency equipment and/or operate doors/exits and to do this you must be a certain height. This is considered to be fair and reasonable.
Same applies for weight. Obviously it is not in the public safety's interest to have a crewmember who is clearly overweight and unfit, as this could potentially obstruct or hinder an evacuation if necessary.
However due to a court case a few years ago instigated by some FAs in the USA (who won their case by the way), airlines are not permitted to discriminate against people who they deem to be 'overweight'. Hence the "weight in proportion to height" requirement. To my knowledge there is no CAA regulation as to how much a FA needs to weigh.

I thought as much, I was just intrigued as there is an airline up north who have many, lets say, curvy crew members and I always wonder whenever I see them why other airlines don't seem to employ people of that size! Unless there is a genuine safety reason or a CAA regulation then surely other airlines are being very discriminatory!
