National Jet Systems
Hi all,
Anyone got the rundown on NJS or even work for them? I have been invited to yet another interview. I leave the country in 3 weeks. They would have to give me a good offer to stay in Aus.
Advice would be appreciated

Craic,
What base is the recruitment for ?
I can't belive NJS have the nerve to be hiring when they are closing so many bases - MKY & ROK have already closed and BNE will close early next year.
Where are you off to in 3 weeks ? EK ? EZ ?

So NJS are recruiting at the moment eh? When is the interview? If I applied now do you think I'd be too late for an interview? Is the interview in Perth?
I may as well apply, cause I really want to start flying while I'm waiting for Qantas to call me from the shortlist!
Sorry about all the questions there, just curious!

Hi
Yeah they are hiring. My interview is next week. But when the lady rang me she only had like 4 available times for me to be seen. I am going next thursday and its in perth.
Don't think there is any harm in going along and seeing what they are offering. But from what I know the hire for small charter planes yeah? like their own planes and qantas airlink?
Think I'll be better off in england with a job with EZ and the BA and EK interviews.

p.s. I applied for this job back in about march

QF SKYWALKER I tend to agree with you!
I had a NJS F/A dead heading on my flight last week, she was saying that the feeling amongst the crew is quite an ill feeling, when it comes to their jobs
She told us that they are pretty much pushing their F/A's out the door. QF are not happy with NJS, as they seem to have a lot of aircarft troubles with the 146. She also mentioned that most of the east coast bases are closing and Perth may be the only one operarting in the future. They are very short on staff, but don't seem to be replacing them. They are running on a low tank!
QF from August has started to use a 737 doing a CBR return in the morning, which was always a NJS route...
Well if they are interviewing, and you get offered one, you would hope you that if you were sucessful, you would want some stability, and a guarantee, they will have a job in the next 12 months.

Hey guys,
I work for NJS so hopefully can be of some help.
Yes it's true BNE, MKY, ROK & CBR bases have closed or are in the process of doing so. Crew were offered positions in other bases (CNS, DRW, PER, ADL (charter only) ) Some people could not move due to family commitments etc, so had to resign. Renumeration for those in that position is now being looked at.
I'd say they're looking for crews in PER if they're interviewing you here. I know we're MAJORLY short of crew and they're working us into the ground. My guess is that it would be charter here as all the charter crew would be on the transfer list for QFlink. If they need more in QFlink then they'd transfer from the list then employ externally for the base. If you're QFlink you'll fly BAE-146 only. If you're Charter you'll fly both the 146 and Dash 8.
They're only offering contracts at the moment. The last contracts were for 12 mths and they've all just been extended for another 12. More aircraft leases are up for renewal next year (about oct) & chances are they'll be going back. Hence the contracts. But 5 a/c are going back at the end of this month and we're still desperate!
Hope that helps you all.
If you want any other info PM me
Love CT

Here's an update...
After being on a contract for 12 months, then renewed for another 12 months with NJS/QantasLink, I have now been made permanent, after 2 years service. Go for it! Yes, we only have Perth, Darwin and Cairns bases operating QantasLink flights, but we're still short staffed and will continue to recruit every couple of months for a while... (from OCT 04 onwards I beleive). We're still running on an 'empty tank' with our Flight Attendants, so now's the time!
Go to the website for a sent application form. Same requirements needed as with Virgin Blue, Jetstar and Qantas.
Best of luck! And as one of a handful male flight attendants within the company, c'mon guys! Apply! NJS is open to all ages and gender.
Good luck all interested!

A little off the subject, but l hear Qantas is making a announcement in the next week or so about the 717's future. Also announcing at the same time something about the dash 400's. So maybe 717's on the west coast and the new dash's for the east

Perhaps you should look at it not as NJS losing a large chunk of their business but 200 + crew potentially losing their jobs!?
I know us NJS QFlink crew would like to keep the jobs we have, especially here in the West where we've been operating for QFlink for 10 years (our anniversary is next month) If the contract was to go to jetstar, I would hope that QF would keep current NJS crew employed under the Jetstar/Impulse banner, after all many of us have been doing it a long time, know our passengers and the routes well. EBA negotiations are about to start again - will be very interesting!

You guys should speak with the FAAA and get them involved ASAP, so either way your jobs are protected. Someone has to crew these aircraft and the bulk of flying will be out of W.A. so it doesnt make a lot of sense to see the NJS flight attendants out of a job if you guys dont get the contract.

Personally, I would think the NJS Cabin Crew are quite safe from the threat of Jetstar taking the contract.
Jetstar is short of crew all over the place, with training school after training school going through for each base that we currently have. We do not possess the ability to suddenly open up another base without sacrificing whatever business plans are in the pipeline for our own new routes and increased frequencies.
Furthermore, I strongly doubt that, with the exception of Perth, you'd find any current crew wishing to relocate to Alice Springs, for example.
If in fact NJS didn't secure the contract, I would naturally presume they'd be given the option to at least skip an interview stage for Jetstar (like they did in BNE not too long ago).
As GalleyHag says, get the FAAA onto it. That is if, of course, they're not already doing something about it (NJS is pretty close to their hearts, given all the recent goings on over there!).
