Are Standards Dropping???
Is it just me or does anybody else think/agree that standards are dropping when it comes to passengers in Business class?
I always thought there was a smart dress code for passengers in Business i.e. suits, jackets for men and smart-casual for women - certainly not jeans, trainers and/or shorts.
It seems to me that anybody can sit in Business as long as they pay for a ticket.
Mind you, some airlines can go overboard on this rule. Example - friend of mine flew United Airlines and got kicked out of Business class because she was wearing open toed high heels and no socks. She had been upgraded on an interline ticket but was still dressed smartly as it has been drilled into us FAs that one must dress to represent your company at all times. But, unless she put some socks on, she was marched back to economy.
Any ideas?

If I ve paid the premium for travelling business then I ll wear what the h*ll I like as long as it isn't obscene. This is the 21st century!

Of course anyone can sit in business class as long as they pay for the ticket. What airline in this day and age is gonna refuse a C class fare from a passenger just because they arent wearing a suit??? However for staff travel, most airlines would have some dress code for Business class.

I Have travelled in Business class with jeans and trainers, i have paid for that ticket which entitles me to use that seat and service on the aircraft, and as far as i am aware there is no dress code.

Definitions change....
Must agree - times have changed. The definition of smart casual is different from 5 years ago let alone 10 years when it completely different.
Jeans and trainers are considered to be acceptable in a lot of "semi formal" settings these days especially when you consider some of them cost more than a fine Hugo Boss suit.

I know what you mean though, people rarely dress up anymore except for weddings and funerals it seems, and some of the things I've seen at the latter would curl your hair! Personally, as long as the passengers are cordial and treat me with courtesy and respect, I don't care if they are wearing their bathrobes. Nothing wrong with being nostalgic for a higher standard though!

Always travel in jeans on long haul. More comfortable and I don't want to ruin my suits. Also, I'd rather sit next to a clean passenger in jeans rather than someone in a Gucci suit and smelly feet. A not uncommon occurence...

If a customer has the dosh to pay for a premium service seat, he/she can wear what the hell they like. The only time I have ever travelled in a suit is when I have been on a day trip on business and have neither the time nor the packing to get changed at the other end.
If it is not a wind up, it may also come as a suprise that WW1 has finished, very few people have servents and with the exception of parts of Norfolk, it is illegal to send boys up chimneys
