Virgin application

Asking for assistance really. My daughter is applying to Virgin Atlantic for a Junior Flight Attendants position". Can anyone provide information/help what they will be looking for and what sort of salary she could expect?

Thanks in anticipation.

You need to ring up VA and ask for an application. They send you a red pack with all the basic info she will need plus the application form. I have applied and been offered an interview before but could not get from Aus to the UK for it. I have just re-sent for the application again after 6 months, despite the fact that I have just been offered a job with Easyjet starting in Nov. When I am living in London it will be easier to get to interviews with the bigger airlines.

VA need you to be over 19, with customer service and hospitality background. GCSE in basic subjects, and a good personality. you will find that you wont get much idea of pay until you get to the interview stage. Unless of course VA crew on this site can give you an idea.

wish you luck

My daughter has just heard from Virgin saying she has not been succesful in getting an interview this time because of high competition and try again in 6 months.

Whilst disappointed she is not bitter, hey thats life but what she is now wondering is what can she do in 6 months that would make a difference for her next application?

Do Virgin never take first applicants?

Would it help if she has Airline experience?

She met all the requirements stated in the virgin application

Any help would be appreciated.

TOM1,

Has your daughter applied to any other airlines ?.

It is very very hard to get into the airline industry as crew on the first attempt, not just with VS but with most airlines. I'll bet that a majority of cabin crew on here didn't get accepted at their first try, although it does sometimes happen, it is very rare so your daughter should not let this setback worry her.

I applied to just about every UK based airline, and some overseas airlines too when I was 17/18/19, but in the meantime I took a job working on the ground in the airline industry as a customer services agent for Servisair.
It was only after I had begun doing this work that I managed to get my first interview with BY, but that was as far as I got. I then decided that I didn't want to be crew, and 10 years later I'm still working on the ground, but am now a flight dispatcher for a UK based airline run by a man with a beard.

It will not hurt for her to gain some airline experience (although any sort of customer contact based job is an advantage), alot of our customer service staff at VS have just made the move from check-in to crew, so it is very possible to do it that way once you have a foot in the door. There is also less competition to be ground staff, than there is to be crew, so this could be a potential route for her to take, she may even like me change her mind and stay on the ground as there are quite a few differant routes that she could take there too.

Tell her not to be put off, if it's what she really wants to do then she just has to keep on trying, and don't just try VS, try all the other airlines too. Jan/Feb is the best time to try the charter airlines, as this is when they start looking for crew for the summer season.

I wish her the best of luck.
