I see on the Emirates Career Page that there are several open days for october 8th, but very few of them are followed by an Assessment Day. For example in Bogota Colombia there's an open day the next saturday october 8th, but it isnt followed by any assessment day. I got an invite for that Open Day, but im affraid thats it could be just a CV drop off, cause i live away from that city and if its just that it wouldnt be worth the long trip, the hotel, etc. It has always been open day, the next day the assessment, this is the first time that there's only the open day listed and not the assessment day. Do you think it could be a mistake and theres an assessment day the next day, or it could definitely be just a cv drop off?

Thak you guys for your advise!

I can't give you a definitive answer but this was my experience...

Open day was on the 7th of July and there was a listed AD on the 30th-These were the dates listed on the website.

I had already applied to the AD in another country and could not attend so I postponed and applied for the one here as they told me to do, I also sent an email to say that I would like the assessment... Well I did not hear back and the Open Day was coming up so I figured I may as well go...I thought the AD would be on the 8th...it wasn't:hmm:

The Open Day was a pre-screening for female applicants only and males had a CV drop off. My 'advice' to you is if you are female then go, if you're male---it's up to you....

After the Open Day the Assessment Day was still the 30th... so people whom had come from overseas had to come back for possibly 3 more days.

I hope that has somewhat answered your question... but I guess you'll never know until you try :)

I have a Q about casual photos:

I don't have very many casual photos and the last time I had an EK interview(last year) ALL the casual photos I had were back when I had dreadlocks. I'm going to the OD in 3 days in Dubai, but since that last interview, my hair's grown out and I look slightly scruffy(well that's what my parents say whenever they see me, but then again, that's what most parents say ha ha) in most of(if not all) these casual photos because I have a bit of facial hair aswell as the former.

Now I have a few questions about causual photos and please bear with me, it might be silly. Are these supposed to be like the Passport/Business photos where you go to a studio and have your picture taken in casual clothes or should it just be a random snapshot that's decent(proper setting, not drinking, etc)? About the issue I mentioned above; will it reflect badly if I had dreadlocks/long hair and a goatee in my casual photos if I show up to the interview well groomed? Would it have some sort of positive effect; i.e showing them that I am truly committed to the job or would it make me out to be some slob/hobo just putting on a show? Does it make any difference if I took casual photos a few days before?

Thanks!

EDIT: I am aware that grooming is very very important to EK which is why I felt a bit embarrassed to ask the question in regards to my current casual photos, but I will definitely be getting a trim and shave for the EK interviews. Just putting that out there in case some of you might assume that I'd be walking around the OD with a ponytail and half a beard ha ha.

easyman82 5th October 2011 11:49

J_SAL - I will suggest you to make new ones as the pictures are very important for EK to select people at the first stage and by the way, after drop off CVs, they will review all the CV's + their pictures to select candidates to attend the assessment day. so it's logic, you should present perfect ones and good luck.

Open Day Question

Hi all!

Congratulations to everyone who has received their GC!

I am thinking of attending an open day next month here in Scotland, however I am on holiday when they are in my city of Glasgow, so I was thinking of flying over to Belfast to attend the OD there which is later in the month?

Has anyone been the the OD in Scotland before and if so was there a large turnout? I am so nervous!

I would also like to ask that my height is 5ft 3 inchs (160m) and my weight is 7 stone (44.45kg) and my BMI is - 17.5 would this be a problem?

Thank you in advance

BMI between 16 to 18 is permissible if proportionate to body frame less than 16 or higher than 28 is not permissible for emirates and for the reach test u have to reach 212cm on tip toes!Good luck

Hey guys,
''Approval in Progress''.

how long wait??

casual photos

Hi! Definetly make some new casual photos...dress nice, groom nice and head out to nature or with friends and make some nice casual photos, decent dressing and you in focus...make some full lenght (not from too far) and some from waist up. I definitely don't advise you to give casual photos with you having dradlock or anythink "crazy" on your head, they will not like it, it's just not Emirates:). To them it is really important how you look on photos and make sure your professional photos in bussines attire are also very nice made and you being very well groomed and smiling on them (SMILE on casual ones too!!!).

GOOD LUCK!

PrimaveraCero 5th October 2011 18:46

Julidzg in my experience in Argentina, last OD in the city of Cordoba was listed, the AD was the following day (I didn't get an invite though) but it wasn't listed. Next AD in Buenos Aires is listed but the ODs are not.

J_sal your casual pictures don't have to be in a studio, they should be in a casual background such as vacations for example. But of course with you alone and no cigarettes or drinks in had. Try to have new ones taken, maybe go for a walk with a friend and find a good location to take some snapshots (as Mmm007 said up there).
I think with casual pics they want to see your personality and if you still look presentable and good in an everyday basis. Hope this helps, good luck!

brighton-disco nobody knows. :p

medical form head start

my status changed to 'you will be contacted...' i just want to get a head start on the medicals because my doctor takes forever to do things. I also need to know if ek requires the larger version of my canadian birth certificate so that i can request it from the ministry :P would anyone be able to fwd me a copy of the medical form? Please pm me. Thanks everybody. I have my fingers crossed for all of you :)

melmel 6th October 2011 03:45

It's actually on this thread somewhere... The main thing is blood tests- so hep B, HIV, Syphilis and Hb count (anaemia)... They take the longest...
Dental, needs to be good! There is a sheet that you get and you literally take it into the dentist and they can do exactly what it says. Depending on the state of your teeth that can take no time at all!

Everything else is very quick! I had ALL of the vaccinations in 2 days!! The whole medical process doesn't take too long :)

I just sent you a private message :)

I have a dentist appointment next week. And yes, even though I have not got a golden call, and I dont know if i will lol.

But because Dentist charges are so expensive here in Perth, I thought I might as well, take the dental medical while im there. It will save me $100 to $200 AUD :/ thats alot of money and thats only for a consultation.

I would rather save the money than have to go a second time :/

FYInformation 6th October 2011 04:19

dental and medical

Bella
100-200 just for a consult is insane! I didnt know that doing the dental in dubai was an
Option....i just like to be prepaired so im going to get it done here at home. I think i may need a filling so ill just take care of it here. I was googling medical formand i read something about chest xrays....i guess if they only require the results for the bloos tests then thats not too bad but i spoke to someone at my doc office and she said she needs to harass the blood work pe
People to get fast results.....so its better for me to get it done in advance but i dont really know exacrly what they want, hence the request for the form......anyone know what page of which post it is on???? :ooh

melmel 6th October 2011 04:24

This is why you should wait for the forms.... You need x-rays and you can't wait until Dubai to have your teeth checked--it's a re-check just to make sure. The medical has pages on how to go about it and what is required.

So people need to be harassed and yes it can be very expensive but that's how it is. I rang almost everyday to get my blood tests quickly, I told them my reasons and you know I got them in 3 days plus there was a public holiday in that week.

Look on every page until you find it :)

Thanks for your advise. We share the same appointed agency so i think it will be the same way, i think thats the way this agency works.

NYCgrl 6th October 2011 05:41

Medicals.

Well you can start but do like the cervical check, Blood work like HIV test, Hep B, Syphilis, and hemoglobin first. Also, immunizations (i.e Polio, Varicella, Yellow Fever, Tetanus and etc). I saved the dental and vision for last.

I did all my medical exams before I even received the call so it can be done. You would just go back and have the doctors fill out the forms, sign and stamp it.

J_sal 6th October 2011 06:07

thanks for the reply guys. I just had a haircut last night and it feels a bit strange. I shall take a few photos soon. I don't know why I feel nervous about the OD when I've already attended an AD before by applying online. I understand they would do as they do at the AD's and show us all a video to pump us up and then spend probably 2 minutes or so talking to each person and collecting their CV's and photographs and then you cross your fingers and wait, but is there anything else that could be expected?

I've checked a blog a little while ago, I believe it's a very popular one and I've made a little checklist on what I'd require to bring along with me based on that;
-CV
-6 Passport Photos
-2 Full Sized(10x15) [Business Attire]
-2 Casual Photos(10-15)
-Photocopy of Passport
-Photocopies of School certificates
-Pen(s)

From your experiences, do you suppose there's anything to add?

Thanks again guys

Edit: I was reading "Yulfa's" experience with the OD on page 12 and I'm confused now. Her OD sounds a lot like the AD I attended, except I had been invited. I was always under the impression that the OD was sort of like a physical(as opposed to online) application to get an AD invite as well as to get a bit of info about EK, but I've been on another forum and noticed that a lot of people comment about their "OD's" but it always sounds like an AD to me. I've also seen people post timeline things that say something like;
OD: XX/XX/XXXX(the date)
AD: XX/XX/XXXX(the next day or a few days later)

This is really confusing me. Even EK's website says that "
In the event that you are successful, you will be obliged to attend a selection interview during the course of the week." I'm doing the OD in Dubai so it isn't as if the recruiters are going to leave to recruit elsewhere, so I am assuming that there will be an AD separately, but then again, and maybe I'm just over-thinking it, but I'm not so sure what this OD entails anymore...Are they just confusing the OD with an AD or is an OD pretty much a walk-in AD? (Does that even make any sense lol?)

I'm sorry for being greedy and bombarding you lot with all these (probably already answered many times) questions. I just only have computer access at work and the search function brings up too much stuff to sift through with the poo internet connection we have here, but thanks again guys. I really really want this job ;)
