leaving kul 04 apr

hi, anyone departing to dubai on 4th of april from KLIA ??

leemarlon 22nd Mar 2008 15:18

Hi Javier

Hi Javier,
Pura vida! (a typical costarican greeting with friends):D
I am so excited and finally i can count on you about our Emirates journey. So you have the DOJ on Apr 11th, and mine is Apr 18th. Of course we can stay in contact with the rest of the lucky people here in Costa Rica, hence we can keep in touch when we are in Dubai! They are Gustavo (April 11), Maria Fernanda (April 18), Patrizia (April 18), Kristy (no idea but i know she is in), and myself.

No one has got the final approval, so we are all facing the same issue with notice period. Stay cool!

BYMONEK 22nd Mar 2008 16:34

There's a wonderful facility on Pprune known as the PM. PM is for Private Message. You guys should try it some time.......Please!

Recruitment agency Bribes

Hear this: EK recruitment agency called SASS from singapore is charging people 500USD for jumping the pre-screening process of EK and another 1500 USD if the applicants get job. The applicants are also being asked to sign a contract and the recruitment agency seems to be claiming to be authorized by the Director Recruitment to do this.

I wonder why is EK recruitment team putting a blind eye to this major incident and huge outcry by applicants in thailand. Do their dreams have a price tags now?

izzy1 22nd Mar 2008 20:27

Hey Guys
Just a quick question ??? after submitting my application on line I have been invited to a selection day in Manchester on 8th April.
I have heard a lot of different things so not sure on what to do but because my hair is long is it better to wear it back or have it loose???
And should I wear red lipstick ???? :O xx

leemarlon 22nd Mar 2008 22:43

izzy1

Hi,
The long hair must be tied back and properly groomed. EK is very strict on your overall looking must be professional and demostrating your nice personality. SMILE and be friendly to the people.

Good luck!

izzy1 23rd Mar 2008 08:26

Thanks Lee :O Need all the advice I can get at the min I am so nervous !!
Hope my nerves dont get the better of me on the day !
I will tie my hair back then kos I was really unsure !
I am new to the forum and been reading it and its been really helpful !
So when are you leaving Lee ? Are you nervous ?

isoguchi 23rd Mar 2008 13:58

Please tell sthg...

rbadizza 23rd Mar 2008 14:48

6th APRIL

thank you so much for all the tips and all..
i will keep in mind..
on the sass atlantic website it said casual business attire - short sleeve and knee length skirt..
so i've got to wear those ya.. no pants is it??

leemarlon 23rd Mar 2008 15:47

The dress code for EK's Open Day is business attire. Skirt or pant are acceptable but make sure they fit you to look professional. Light make up for women and hair well groomed and tied back. Remember in group discussion just stay calm and DO NOT talk a lot, respect others opinions and DO NOT interrupt the conversation. Furthermore, they are looking for team players and not a leader.

Wish you the best of lucks!

My DOJ is Apr 18. :ok:

izzy1 23rd Mar 2008 15:59

Hello Guys
I am feeling a little disheartened :{ I know shouldn’t have been on the other Emirates forum because its just for current employees but I had a little look today and don’t know if any one else has been on there but there is a lot of bad stuff on there about working for Emirates.
Some people are saying they are a bad company to work for and they can get rid of you very easily
Has anyone else had a look ?? What do you think on this ?

nickedo15 23rd Mar 2008 16:28

izzy

sorry but if you bored and dont have anything good to say about emirates, then stay away! its a great company and all my friends that works for EK is so oo happy! u the first person to say something like this
You have just made a fool out of yourself
ta
xx

izzy1 23rd Mar 2008 16:44

Nickedo 15 I think you have totally misinterpreted what I have said !!!! Did you read my message properly ??????? I was not trying to upset anyone !!
I was only going off what other people have said on this forum on the Emirates Crew Discussions II, these are people who are actually work for Emirates
I don’t think I have made a fool out of my self I was just asking a question if anyone else had heard this or seen what people have wrote on the other forum
I am doing my research as I feel its is a very big step to move away and I want to know as much information as possbile and I think everyone else my position will feel the same !!!

londoneasyjetboi 23rd Mar 2008 17:10

settle down nikedo!

izzy wasnt saying anything bad about EK. Read again and you will see he came across the EK Crew discussions forum and was disheartened (his words btw) by what he read... I guess he is wondering if anyone else has read the stuff on there, I have for one, and each company has there own problems, also they have good points, and these are the things that need to be weighed up... the good against the bad, thats all he was trying to do... no need to go and have a go when it is probably just a misunderstanding...

can we all be friends again??

nickedo15 23rd Mar 2008 17:34

:):ok::ok::eek:

BE HELPFUL:ok:

Dress Code

Rbadizza, you should wear length skirt with stockings and heels...definitely. Wear your hair back if it is long and don't forget the red lipstick. But if they want " short sleeve and knee length skirt.." just follow their advice - at least it will shows that you're able to follow orders strictly.
Be confident and smiley, without too much expectations - i think this is the right way to make a good impresions to the recruiters, everything else is a question of chance and luck.
Well, I wish you best of luck one more time :)

Not bad advice - but you'll blend in with the crowd like a chameleon. You don't have to wear your hair strictly according to Emirates grooming standards - if you do so, you will look exactly like every other wannabe in the room. Look professional, while being individual, and you'll have a better chance of the recruiters remembering you.
Thats the tricky part, getting these guys to remember who you are. They get paid minimum wage to assess hundreds of keen young people all trying their hardest to look like EK crew, and after a while, they all start to look alike. Make yourself stand out (preferably for positive reasons) and you'll stand a much better chance of getting recruited, whether the ponytail you had was regulation length or not.

For Gods Sake, if wearing bright red lipstick makes you look like Ronald MacDonald's inflatable party doll friend, don't wear it. Wear what makes YOU look good, and worry about conforming to EK standards once you get into the damn uniform.

Ali_Xander 24th Mar 2008 10:23

Thats good advice gadgetman!

It really is about being an individual and trying to stand out. I went for pink (whilst all the other guys went for other colours - wear what works for you) when I attended my Open Day...and now I am in the Uniform everyday :p

izzy1 24th Mar 2008 10:53

Thanks Gadgetman your advice has helped me, I am due to go to for an assessment day on the 8th April and I have been really unsure on how to wear my hair and about the lipstick :ugh:
All my family and friends have told me to wear my hair our because its curly but then reading on here lots of people have said it wear it back !!
I dont wear red lipstick but was going to for the day but now I think I will just be myself were my hair out and usual lipstick !
I will be more comfortable this way !
Did anyone else wear there hair out loose ? xxx

OzyOS 24th Mar 2008 12:21

Hi izzy1...just having a wonder thru this forum (I use to be EK Crew) and noticed you were having a bit of a dilemma on how to present yourself for your interview. Gadgetman definitely had very valid points to consider, but I noticed you were thinking of wearing your hair out? Personally I wouldnt recommend doing this (although im sure there have been those who have and were still recruited). Being chosen is a mix of everything ranging from your experience, abilities and grooming (also people forget that they are also assessing the question of.."Can you be easily trained?"). Absolutely let your personality shine thru (within reason) choosing colours that you feel comfortable wearing (make-up etc)..but I think the Key thing to remember here is "professional" Having your hair tied back will present you loooking more "polished" and that a bit of effort was put in. You dont need to go to any major extreme (mine was in a simple ponytail swept back), but leaving your hair down (unless its above the colar of your shirt) will be falling in all the wrong places and the last thing they want to see is someone playing with their hair during the interview flicking it off their face etc.
This is just from my personal experience and although I was never a recruiter with EK, I have done this job with another airline and seeing a fresh faced applicant that was able to sparkled with a bit of their own personality yet maintain a highly groomed/professional image usually won my vote everytime!
I wish you every bit of luck! :ok:

izzy1 24th Mar 2008 12:37

Thanks ozyos I understand what you mean ! My hair is long so I think you could be right the last thing I want to be doing is messing with it throughout the day !! You hear so many things and dont know what to do for the best its confusing :)
Did you enjoy working for Emirates ? xx

PS forgot to say thankyou to londoneasyjetboi & midoy10 for there support on my previous message i was really shocked at the response i got, i think some people forget this is a forum at the end of the day and its used to discuss all aspects not only good points !! thanks again !

OzyOS 24th Mar 2008 12:47

Hey izzy1..I had a great time working for Emirates! Was sad when I had to leave, but was offered a promotion with another airline that I couldnt really say no to :). Having said that I just love working in aviation in general, its never boring but granted its not for everyone..its what you make of it...and so far for me there has been no complaints! (and ive been playing in this industry since the late 90's!)
Its certainly an addictive career choice...so be prepared for one hell of a ride! :p

Serdarh 24th Mar 2008 12:56

Hello everyone ,

This is my very first post in this forum thought my post could help and might give some ideas about newcomers. My first try with EK OD's was in Nov.2007 in Istanbul-Turkey. I had got eliminated after reach test(i reached 212cm since my height is 190 :D) think there was many classy people out there and i was just unlucky. Now last week EK came into my town Izmir for OD. This time i made it thru the Final Interview stage and completed my final interview on 19th March. 14 people made it thru the FIs out of 140. My point is you just need to keep trying and never give up if you really want this job. I am an aviation fan and will not give up till i get this job. All the preliminary stuff and final interview details is just similar with what it has written on this thread. So i hope i can join you guys soon enough.
Best of luck whoever will join on ODs.

Thanks
Serdar

open day emirates

Hey,

I am attending an open day next week, any advice about what actually happens at these days?? all comments would be very helpful?? also i filled in an on line application and never heard anything back? how long do you usually wait before hearing back? any tips for the online applications??

thanks

izzy1 24th Mar 2008 15:50

Hi Hannah
After I completed my online application I waited around 6 weeks and then I got a email asking me to attend an assessment day which is on the 8th April - Manchester, So i cant help you much with the open day but if you read through all of this thread then you will find lots of usefull information from people who have attened open days.
When did you complete your online application ??
Hopefully I may see you at the assessment day also :O
Good luck xxx

OzyOS thanks for your words of wisdom and advice you sound like you have had lots of fun times xxx

CrewA380 24th Mar 2008 17:10

Hi gadgetman! Yep, you're right, but we're talking about recommendation of EK - they recomend that sort of dress style and you can chek it on the official site :)
But hey, this is only recommendantion not order - you're free to wear whatever you want...but somehow i think you should follow their advices - at least it will shows that you're able to follow advices (orders) :O
This is an interview for responsible position - not fashion review. As OzyOs says :"..the key thing to remember here is "professional" "
I wish to all the member in this great forum best of luck! :)

londoneasyjetboi 24th Mar 2008 17:21

Serdarh!

How did they even let you attend another open day when there was only like 4 months between (nov 07 til now) you first attempt and now, when I went for mine, they made it clear that if 6 months had not passed, you couldnt attend and a few people got up left.... please give some clarification, becuase if they let you attend again with only 4 months, there may be some hope for all of us!!

isoguchi 24th Mar 2008 22:30

as far as I know 6 months time is an asset..if HQ in Dubai finds out that its his 2nd time without fulfilling that 6 month stuff, he may get eliminated unfortunately.. Hope everything would go smooth and fine though:rolleyes:

leemarlon 25th Mar 2008 00:37

Question!

Hi there,
Can someone tell me or had experienced a long waiting of their final approval? I have been waiting for almost 2 weeks and nothing so far...

They told me not to resign until i am advised to do so, that's my concern that I need 1 month of notice period and I have no such approval to resign...my DOJ is apporoaching so quick and no idea what to do. I had tried to called them but no one picked up the phone...so i emailed them 3 times so far and not even one word from them.

Thanks
Marlon

Serdarh 25th Mar 2008 07:05

london - isoguchi

well as you may all know if that was a problem they basicly would not let me went thru the finals in the first place. As you have withnessed the age limit was 21 but they ve asked what months people born so they accepted or sent them back. One of the recruitment officers remember me that i was in last OD in Nov.2007 and asked me if she is right. I said i joined the last OD and she said ok.
Point is they are making ODs twice every year in Turkey and it should not be a problem if they came down after 4 months. Plus maybe they add the waiting process to that date and that makes 6 months :D
Oh well i think that depends on the specific situation like mine. And if i get eliminated believe me it wont bcoz of that :D(i think i did some mistakes during the final interview but who knows)

pbaby 25th Mar 2008 14:49

Hey guys

Do you have any idea about " reinvitation" after having final interview?

thank you for any clue!

leemarlon 25th Mar 2008 15:57

pbaby

Hi,
May I ask where did you see such "reinvitation"? Did you get an email from Emirates with reinvitation letter? It sounds to me like they are inviting you again and giving you one more chance to improve your final interview. It's unusual but could happen to someone with proper cabin crew profile they are looking for. Please give us more detail how did you get that reinvitation? any explaination on that email or so?

izzy1 25th Mar 2008 16:01

leemarlon just a suggestion for you as I see you are having problems with your final approval !
Why dont you ask your question on the other forum for Emirates Crew because you are staff now anyway :) and maybe they will have more answers for you !

wave 25th Mar 2008 17:06

Open day Zagreb

Hi,

I am from Rijeka, I was browsing around and I saw your message. I am going as well at the open day in Zagreb.Did you get any special invitation? I ve send my application on line and I did get an invitation from the Cabin Crew to join the open day. It was an invitation for everybody, nothing special. Nonetheless I will be there anyway. Do you have some more information about this assesment day? I am not worried anyway, one more interview on my shoulder.
See you 9 a.m. sharp.

CrewA380 25th Mar 2008 17:40

Open day - invitation

Hi there wave! No, you do not need any "special" invitation attending an open day. Just check all previous comments and you could find every info you need .
Good luck !:ok:

Ena85 25th Mar 2008 17:46

Hey wave- cool that ure from Rijeka, Im croatian too, lived in Scandinavia my entire life n now live in Australia- going to Dubai tho heh:)
If u go there with an open mind and attitude u have one thing thats def. a good start:) It takes a while to get to the actual final int, the one they do on open day is super-short and is basically just to hand in ur CV and for them to remember ur face I think...I didnt know they recruited from Zagreb, awesome - go Croatia:D

habibinamerica 25th Mar 2008 18:05

Similar Case Serdarh!

hey guys!

An OD is being conducted in my home town next week!
i'm so nervous I'm still not sure I can attend it!! as I HAD A FINAL INTERVIEW 10 MONTHS AGO and I was unsuccessful. Then I was told that I could re-apply after one year (similar case SERDARH!).

I received an email last week from EK, they offered me a position as an Airport Services Agent:confused:, so I went back to them asking if I could attend the OD in April, and they EVEN advised ME TO DO SO!! the lady who contacted me said that unsuccessful applicants are supposed to wait usually 6 months. It confused me a lot more!!

Anyway I'm thinking about attending the OD and ask them first if I can do the whole process (I can even print the email I received from that lady:O)

What do you guys think?

mother hen 25th Mar 2008 18:19

Hi there, my daughter has been in Dubai working for EK for the past 19 months.

Looking over the old emails she received from them, she got her final approval on the 20th August 2006 and left for Dubai on the 8th September 2006. They wanted her to leave earlier but she asked them if they could but her DOJ back a week, which they did without any trouble.

All in all from her very first interview to leaving in September was 3 months. I'm sure you will get your final approval soon, and if you need to change your DOJ they should be fine about it. I know it's hard not to worry, but if your medicals were fine with your doctor, there really shouldn't be a problem with them in Dubai. I understand though you wont stop fretting till your in Dubai!

I'm sure everything will be ok for you,

wishing you all the very best,

mother hen.

I've got a call from agency.

Where I'm from, we have to get through pre-interview before attending assessment day. The agency which takes place EK's assessment,Final interview told me I got passed over but I've been reinviting for next assessment.
And they didn't give me any feedback so I'm afraid.

What am i gonna do?
Help me!

thanks marlon and hope you get a final approval soooon!
