Hi Nicola1, I've been crew with Virgin for just over 18 months. During your SEP you will be tested nearly everyday, usually on what was covered the day before. You have to get 88% to pass. If you fail, you'll resit the next day and that day's scheduled test. If you fail again on the same test you'll go to VIVA which is a verbal test of I think 100 questions. Fail that and you're sacked. You're also only allowed to ever resit two exams. If you go to VIVA on one exam, but then fail a resit on another you'll be sacked.

Concentrate in class, do your revision and you'll walk it.

Also, don't ever turn up after a night on the drink because even if you're a tiny bit hanging, they'll sack you too. Happenned to three people on three different occassions on my course!!

I don't mean to scare you! Recurrent is what you should worry about when you have to do it all again in a year!

Enjoy your course x

Was anybody else at the interview today at The Base, Wednesday 5 December? Being told the same day you got the job seems to be the norm with Virgin now, so has anyone heard anything yet?

Claire2 5th Dec 2007 16:35

Hi Silver Angel,

Don't worry to much, I had my interview at the beginning of Nov on the Wed and I didn't have an email until the Fri offering me the job.

I will keep my fingers crossed 4 u;)

Nicola1 6th Dec 2007 14:04

Hi

Thanks very much for your last message, it has been very informative to me. I am still a bit worried though but think i will be ok. I just don't want to do anything to mess this great opportunity up! I live miles away so staying with someone in Crawley, so definitely won't be going into training half cut - i'll save that for me Saturday nights back home.

Can you just please possibly advise on 1 last thing? What does the swimming pool task entail exactly?

Thanks again.

r.s 6th Dec 2007 16:06

Hi Nicola, honestly, you'll be fine. The instructors are great and want you to pass and will do everything they can to make sure you know and understand everything.

The wet ditch drill firstly involves getting up at stupid o'clock in the morning and dragging yourself into the base while it's still dark! If I remember rightly, you get in and swim a length of the pool to prove you can actually swim. You get out of the pool, put on a life jacket and inflate it, get back in the pool and drag one of your colleagues to the other end of the pool, they drag you back. Get back out of the pool, deflate your life jacket and tie it up again, throw the life jacket into the middle of the pool. Get back in and swim to a life jacket, put it on and then blow it up using the mouthpiece at the top. Then they chuck a life raft into the pool and you all have to get in it. The first two lucky / unlucky into it end up hauling everybody else in. That's probably the hardest part of it all!

Then back to the base, cold and with wet hair for another day of learning.

Hope that helps x

Nicola1 10th Dec 2007 09:26

Thanks RS, you have certainly put my mind at rest now.

I'd heard stories of it being like something off the film (i forget what film) where you are strapped in and get put under water and have to escape!!

Anyway, thanks for all the info you have given, i'm really looking forward to it all now.

Thanks x

Starting on 14th Jan too!

Hi Nicola!

I'm starting 14th too, and very nervous as well! But also very excited! How's the e-learning going?

Nicola1 21st Dec 2007 14:31

Hi

Nice to meet someone else who will be on the training with me!

Not started the learning yet, think i'm going to do it over Christmas when i've got some time off work. Have you started? Is it hard?

Are you currently cabin crew or are you totally new to it like myself?

ellebelle 21st Dec 2007 15:21

I am currently crew - just had my last flight and it hasn't all sunk in yet! It's not hard at all, easy to use and you can go back to all sections as many times as you like!

Really nice to meet someone from the course too!

What do you do now? Have you got accommodation sorted? Sorry for the interrogation!! :)

Nicola1 22nd Dec 2007 07:22

Don't worry about asking questions, i have been since i heard i'd got the job back in August!

I'm currently a Customer Service Supervisor and have been for the past 5 years. I am soooo excited but nervous at the same time. I suppose you already know quite a lot about the industry but the training may still be a lot to take in.

I'm going down on the 27th for a uniform fitting. I tried to get it done on the 2nd when the induction is but they said it is an all day affair! It's a bit of a pain as i live in Derbyshire so it's a 3 hour trip down there just to get measured up!!

But hey, never mind. It'll all be worth it in the end!

:)

red lips 29th Dec 2007 00:21

Hi Nicola, i had my uni fitting a couple of weeks ago your in there for about 15mins so your gona have a hard day of driving!!
have you started you e learning? its not to bad when you get started nothing a bottle of wine wont help you get through! see you on the 2nd! :)

Nicola1 29th Dec 2007 10:13

Hi Red Lips.

I was there for about 30 minutes. I felt so proud when i had it all on - they give you so much stuff don't they!!

Not started my E Learning yet. I have had a look at the CD Rom and printed most of it off. I suppose you are familiar with all of the abbreviations as you are already crew but it is new to me and i don't want to fail any part by not knowing something, so keep browsing through them.

I will start it this weekend i think.

Does it have to be done before the 2nd or the start date?

Have a good weekend x :)

red lips 30th Dec 2007 01:30

I hope not, had no time to do anything have been non stop flying in december, but it does help if you've flown before but its still new! they wont be there to fail us so we will all be fine. the more you learn the easier it will be i hope! but have heard it very tough so social life will be on hold for a while!

have a nice week end to and see you next week, happy new year.:)

blondechick 30th Dec 2007 17:05

Hi there. I am currently in the middle of filling out an online application for a Cabrin Crew job with Virgin Atlantic, and I was wondering if any current crew members, or successful candidates can give me any tips to help me with it. Thank you.

Claire

Hiya Claire,

Yes, I am on that induction day too! Have got my uniform fitting that day too at 8am, so quite an early start for me! It will be nice to know someone's name at least!
Were you at interview on the same days as me then? I went on a Wednesday in early November, I think it was the 7th Nov, there were loads of people there.

I have found somewhere to stay hun, I called the number that Pokergirl gave me last night, it works out at £10 per night, call 01293 784 541 and speak to Maurice, lovely guy, very friendly, they have been established for 10yrs+ and have Virgin girls there quite alot, so try and get in there fast! Let me know how you get on. x

Claire2 9th Jan 2008 14:02

Hi ya,

Yes I had my interview on Wed 07th Nov too, I couldn't believe how many people were there and I didn't think for a minute I would get through especially as so many of them had flying experience and I have none!! I was in the red group (all girls) and had the group task first, which group were you in?

Thanks for the info, I've just called that guy and he is fully booked now, however he has asked me to call back tonight as he has a friend who does the same thing and also charges the same price.

I'm still really nervous about the trg course, especially when I saw the 88% pass that you need to achieve:{

Speak soon

tancharlie 9th Jan 2008 15:19

Claire

Hey Claire

I know, there were loads of people weren't there!! I had quite a shock when I walked in too! I was in the Blue group, had the tests first:eek:, was really panicking when I realised it, but I suppose it was good to get them out of the way!

What a shame!! But at least he knows someone else who can do it for you at that rate, honestly, that is the cheapest I have found anywhere and I have tried quite a few! One was charging a total rate of £819! Shocker!!

I know, the training is not something I am looking forward to very much! You really do need to put your head down and revise, I used to work for Virgin a few years ago and I went through the whole training business, it was ok, but you do need to be sensible with your social life...rephrase, what social life?! lol!
You'll be fine though hun, honestly you will. Put in as much effort as you can, and you'll sail through with no troubles!

What are you wearing to the induction day? I am really stuck as to what we should wear?!

anyway, let me know how you get on with your acc hun.

xxxx

Mr Pate

Hello Mr Pate!

I start on the 4th Feb too, see you there!

Tan x:ok:

Mr Pâté 10th Jan 2008 11:13

Tan

Hey there! I was in the blue group too! Which team were you in during the group work?

I'm really looking forward to the induction. Have you guys started your e-learning as yet?

tancharlie 10th Jan 2008 11:22

Mr Pate

Oh my god, what a coinscidence! I was in the group nearest to the door...if that makes sense! I had the freckles!! :O Where were you? x

Haven't started the e-learning, still waiting for it to arrive thorugh the post....called Virgin yesterday to see if I should have had it by now, they said it should be with us at least 2 weeks prior to start date, but she mentioned that if it is not with me by mid next week, to call them, so excited, I just can't wait!! :D

The induction day should be fun, it will be nice to meet everyone prior to our actual start date...hhow exciting it all is!

xx

Mr Pâté 10th Jan 2008 12:27

I was in the group on the left hand side as you walk in.

About the e-learning, it's not hard but just a lot to take in, i'd suggest taking note whilst going through the learning bits, so when you come to the testing bits you'll have notes and something to refer back to...btw you'll need lots of ink in your printer as you'll need to print off all you pass marks and some other stuff, like check lists.

There is a lot of information and forms in the pack you get, so make sure you put some time aside to do it all.

Have you seen some of the videos on youtube of the virgin training groups? It gives you some idea of what to expect on the training...but i'm sure they'll go through all that at induction.

tancharlie 10th Jan 2008 12:47

Mr Pate

I think you may of been in my group.....

Have you started your e-learning then?? When did you get your passwords?

I used to work for Virgin before, so I know what to expect, I think sometimes it is even worse knowing because you anticipate what you remember doing the last time!! :uhoh:It wasn't that bad actually, but you do lose your social life for a while!! Not bad when you think of the perks at the end of it all though!

I look forward to meeting you...again! x

Claire2 10th Jan 2008 12:54

Hi both,

Looking forward to meeting you to soon!! I've received my e-learning but not started yet.

Tanya-thanks so much for that number, my accomodation is now booked and is the same price as yours so I'm really pleased (Maurice's friend), I will be about 15 mins drive from the base.

Not sure what I will wear to the induction but probably a black pencil skirt with a smart shirt or something.

I'll try not to worry to much about the course either:ugh:

Thanks and speak soon

Virgin training times
:)Hello evryone!

This is my first post so hopefully this will end up where i want it to!! i have just been accepted onto a training course with Virgin and am trying to decide if i will commute or find accommodation nearby. i know the days start at 9.30 but they have not mentioned what time they will finnish. Thanks in advance

Hi Nicola,
are you asking about commuting from Warwickshire during training or once you're online?

If you want to commute from there while you're training you'll really really struggle. I live in Warks and on a good day it takes me one and a half hours to get to LHR, going to LGW I usually add another hour and a half on top of that as the M25 can be, and usually is complete hell. Add to all that the revision you must do each night to hope to be able to pass the course. I'd advise you to move to Crawley for six weeks!

On the other hand, it's no problem once you're flying, as it's obviously not every day. Most of your flights will be from LHR anyway, and when from LGW you can have a kip on the crew bus round the M25.

Also, you don't always start at 9.30 - a lot of the time you'll start at 8. The days finish when they finish. Once everybody is happy with what has been covered in the day, once all questions have been asked and answers understood. Some days we finished at 4, some days 7 (there were a lot of questions asked in my group).

Good luck with your training x

nicola437 11th Jan 2008 13:00

training

Thank you for your reply r.s and all the inofrmation you gave. If you dont mind me asking -where in Warwickshire do you live? I am in Stratford. Anyway, I meant commuting for the training but from my sisters in Wimbledon and just wanted to try and plan a bit and work out the costs etc - might just worth staying mearby the Base.

I cant wait to start!

Thanks Nic

ENOUGH!!!

Folks,

This forum is intended for working Cabin Crew: Some time ago it was nearly over run with wannabees, and for that reason the wannabee threads were established to be a source of information for those seeking recruitment. It would seem that the wannabee threads are now being used for a sort of social networking function instead.

You need to be very clear on this - If your post does not contain concrete fact about the recruitment then it has no business on PPRuNe - anywhere: This means that any of the following stuff is not to be posted...

Facebooks, blogs, I'm so happy for you, woohoo I got it, wish me luck, send me a PM, msn me, will you be at the interview, follow your dreams etc. etc. All of this should be done by PM on PPRuNe (if you must - we'd rather that you didn't use our server space for it) or by Text Message - in fact do it anyway that you want - BUT DON'T POST IT ON A THREAD.

DJK82 15th Jan 2008 13:57

Hi I have decided to apply for cabin crew with Virgin and was wondering if anyone can help me with the application and tell me abit about the way Virgin works.

Thanks

David
