Qantas International Cabin Crew Medical

Does anyone know what it involved in pre-employment medical for International Cabin Crew? I wear glasses for reading and long distance and worried I will fail the vision test. Also how physical is the test?

what’s involved in the medical pre employment

Hi,
im a QantasLink applicant and I’ve been researching this topic. I believe Aviation pre employment medical examines you blood pressure, hearing,
lumbar strength, and flexibility etc. I know vision tests are involved but you can bring your glasses to your assessment. This tells me that someone needing glasses is not automatically disqualified. I forgot to take a screenshot. I’ll go back and take a screenshot and hopefully some links to relieve your anxiety 😌

Hey guys, did you apply via Altara? I applied directly with QANTAS. My medical basically went for 45minutes, you can wear glasses, there's a short and long vision test, hearing test, BMI, exercises and they test your flexbility by asking you to move in specific ways and you also lay down and they push your legs and knees in speicifc ways. Good luck!

plank test- holding a push up position with straight arms, a push up without a push up, if that makes sense?
Grip tests, is done with a hand grip squeezed for 3 seconds. urine drug/ alcohol urine test. Lumbar is just our back and core/abs strength. we need to be able to lift & put items in the overhead compartments easily.
I’ve started running to improve my fitness, as I was pretty tired after the swimming test!
Do u know if we are sent to where we do medicals, or do we apply ourselves?

Hello! Just wondering if the physiological testing is the same at different locations? I actually had to do push ups for 30 seconds!

Hi,
they test back strength by asking us to lift a milk crate filled with heavy weights, just try to keep your back straight and bend using your legs when lifting. I struggled with the bar, but I’m (probably) a bit older than you, so you should be fine if you go to gym regularly. If not, I would def start working out 10-20 min a day a month beforehand. I work out with 3-6kg hand weights or dumbbells for upper body strength. We lift luggage into overhead bins and you need a strong back to do this every day. I’m so glad I started training for this bcos I wouldn’t have been able to lift the 20kg bar 2 months ago! We have to hold it above our head. Also, if u wear glasses, make sure your glasses has bi focal lenses if u need them, as this affected my vision test. I didn’t think to get my eyes re tested as my glasses were for driving and I can read a book without glasses. I generally don’t need them but the print on the test was minuscule. someone with perfect eyesight would struggle to read it. Qantaslink can wear contacts or glasses at work. 🤓
