Qantas had just announced their half yearly financial results and naturally it wasn't a good one.

3Q22 (January, February, March) their international flying is at 22% pre covid level

4Q22 (April, May, June) they're predicting it to be at 44%

On top of that they are experiencing a surplus of crew in long haul, until flying is at a good percentage they are in no hurry to recruit.

Worst thing is to hire people and not giving them work because there's not enough to go around.

From application to ground school it could take a good six months, or even longer.

Application to assessment = usually around 2-4 weeks, otherwise 2 - 10 plus weeks (most likely in this instance)
Medicals = 3 - 4 weeks
ASIC clearance = 6 to 8 plus weeks
Certificates (if you haven't got one already) eg, swimming, 1st aids, rsa = 1 to 3 days depending on what you're studying.

In mean time just continue what you're doing and build on those 'exceptional' customer skills.
It will come, slowly but surely it will.

Best of luck to all 👍🤞😄

Thank you so much. That all makes total sense and is reassuring.

I received an email last week inviting me to an assessment day this week in Melb. I was given Wed or Thur morning to choose from. I don't know if there have been any other assessment days held this year or not but if people have already been offered positions as mentioned earlier in this chat then there must have been unless they are internals and there may be a different process. From previous experience (pre covid), assessment days are usually groups of between 30-40 people so it will take a while to get through successful applicants as they are most likely short staffed within the recruitment team. If you haven't heard anything yet then just sit tight. No news is good news in this case. It's going to be a long process. I went through all of this in 2019 and the process took 6 mths from application to being offered a base. Sadly covid came along before I could start GS and well - the rest is history. Good Luck 🤞

Hi, where do you see it being advertised a third time? Not on QF website… 🤔
Anyone from Brisbane here awaiting reply?

It's on Seek. Was listed 3d ago for Melb & Syd. This is the 3rd time this year it's been listed. Hard to explain but there must be a reason. Perhaps Brisbane has been filled already. Did you have flexibility with your base request? Good luck. 🤞

Hi, how soon after doing your questionnaire did you get an unsuccessful email? And do you feel like you know why you did? Sorry you didn’t get a better outcome! 👍🏼

MEL ASSESSMENT DAY

Hey everyone!! Just thought I’d chip in let you all know that Qantas is definitely moving swiftly with the recruitment and mentioned on my assessment day (Wed 09/03) that they are holding assessment days for 4 weeks!! Explains the readvertising for sure! They expressed how excited they were to get everything up and going again but also mentioned the earliest training school will not be until August 2022 if that helps anyone ! Best of luck

Thanks for the info! Feeling a bit disheartened that I haven’t had a response after it’s been 2 months from applying. During that time it’s been re advertised twice, feel like my application will just get lost under all the more recent ones.
I have a lot of flying experience and have worked on wide body previously.
hoping with all these assessment days that means I’ll hear something in the next few weeks.
Good luck everyone!

I think no news is good news in this case!
Has anyone seen that Altara are advertising also for Qantas casual positions, but it doesn’t specify if international or domestic. The position is bne, syd and Mel base. Anyone apply?

Can I apply for domestic if i get rejected for international? Or does the 12 months also apply for all QF jobs?

Has anyone been asked to go for their medicals yet? Is it a phone call or email that you receive to tell you that you have been successful through to this stage?

Red face

Hi,

I applied to QantasLink Cabin Crew Sydney. I went to my Assessment Day and have done my XREF and ASIC last week but, I haven't heard back from QF at all. Does anyone know how long it takes for the next step and what the next step will be?

Medicals are only valid for 3 months so you won't get asked to do that until you have progressed and cleared reference, background and security clearance. I believe you are asked to do the medical once you've been offered a ground school start date. That's what they told us at the assessment day.

Thank you for the info. Hopefully we will hear soon. From my understanding the first initial course is scheduled to commence late April.

I also know of external applicants going through the assessment days in both SYD and MEL. Many applications still to go through so hopefully the wait won't be too long for those still waiting. Would be great to hear if anyone gets a call for a confirmed GS start date. Fingers crossed!

I am external. It was a few weeks before I was emailed after doing the questionnaire. I don't think internals have heard much yet for international. I believe assessment days are happening over the next 4 weeks. If you haven't had a rejection letter then just be patient. They would have had thousands of applications to process. It's a long process so no news is good news in this case. Good luck.
