ASIC FEE's

Asphalt Jungle....You mentioned that the company will finally pay ASIC fee's. Is it effective now or when is it expected that the company pay for ASIC fee's? The current GS in Sydney have been requested to pay their own fee's. Does everyone usually pass GS? Thanks again.

Sorry again I'm not 100% sure about the SYD base. I thought they would but I can't be sure.

there are minimal differences between Jetstar and Tiger Altara. Pay is the same during training and online with both companies. Although Tiger Altara offer full time.

Hi

Does anyone know how the recruitment process works? Been invited for AD in Melbourne on 30 May. How long after that before you are sent to Ground School?

Tiger Ground School

Estatic26....in Sydney AD was on the 4th May and GS started 14th May. So not much time to resign from job and consider moving closer to the airport! Not sure of Melbourne. But goodluck and just be yourself.

Next Melb GS is June, I however got offered a position as did about 20 others in Jan 19th and were to be in this June intake so that's around a 6 month wait. Many of us have since sought other jobs, normally it doesn't take this long but was pushed aside due to the expansion oc the Sydney base which was dissapointing.

Prepare for a LONG day... Basically we handed in our cvs and they gave us a number and we had to sit at the table with that same number. There were about ten to each table. First task was to work in a team to come up with a marketing strategy. We then had to share it with the whole room. There was an assessor taking notes on each of us at each task. Second task we were given a piece of paper with a picture on it and had to stand up and talk about it for two minutes. We had to talk as soon as we got it so we were put on the spot and couldn't prepare. Third task was again in groups and it was working out what items off a list we would get off a plane if it were to crash.

One on one interviews were about 30mins each and involved a short Maths test. They asked people to leave throughout the day and let those who stayed all day know if they got it by the end of the day.

Hope this helps

Yes it was so helpful thank you very much!

At least i know that I'll find out by the end of the day and won't have to play the waiting game!

30 mins is such a long interview! Are there any particularly tricky questions? And is the maths test a written test or is it verbal? Do they ask you the questions and expect you to answer them straight away.. if so, uh oh.. And for the picture task (I'm so sorry for all the questions!) do we have to talk about it to the whole room or just our group? Is it just a random picture or does it relate to tiger/airlines in some way

Once again thanks sooo much!

nah questions were easy. they give you a sheet of paper with the math questions, they are so easy. you fill it in and hand it back. the picture thing is just infront of the group of 10. there was a computer, tree, fly, tweety bird, group of people and a few others :-) they are all really lovely so im sure you'll be fine!

Question Swimming test?

I'm new to the site. I'd like to know when they mention 'swimming test', what exactly involve? I saw TT need you to be able to swim 50m unaided. Are they going to tell you to swim 50m really?

Yes, you must be able to swim 50m un-aided. In our third week of training we spend the day at the Qantas training centre. We had to wear overalls over our bathers and get in the pool with life jackets on. We then had to get ourselves into a T25 life raft and set up the canopy with the lights out and rain (fire sprinklers) on. Then we need to drag a team mate thru the water and swap. Then we need to swim up and back. People have failed because they Havnt been able to complete this part of the training process. But I also know of plenty of people that went and learnt to swim when they discovered they had gotten into GS and passed the day with flying colors
You get out what you put in when it comes to GS
But this particular day is so much fun

Asphalt_Jungle

Thank you so much for your answer
Did you keep the life jacket on the whole time you were in the water?
How long did this whole process take from the first time you jumped in the pool to the end when you were back up on the ground?
Are there any tips you could give about this test?
Sorry for asking so many questions. I'm getting paranoid as I do not want to fail my dream job
I can swim unaided with goggles on. I guess i have to start practising without goggles

Ps. I love what you wrote in the thread. It's absolutely helpful. Thank you

Swimming test

Hello all!
I was at the May 8th AD in Melbourne, and was accepted!
I haven't had a Letter of Offer or more info on GS yet though, do they send it after speaking to referees or closer to the date?

I'm worried about the swimming test! I've never done anything like it before, so I'm not sure how I'll go.
So, we're not allowed to wear goggles, is that true?'

Asphalt_Jungle, did anyone fail in your GS? Did they fail badly? i.e., could they not make the 50m?
I'm practising swimming as often as I can!

No goggles. I cant imagine in a real emergency ditch in the ocean that there would be goggles readily available for your convenience.

Hey Ifly
I was successful at the may 30 AD and have already been confirmed to start GS in July. Once you are confirmed for GS and they give you a date then they will contact your references
