rex ground school
hey all
i have just got into ground school for Rex (regional express) what can i expect and since this is my first job as crew is it a good airline tocut my teeth on

Rex is a great airline to work for, u'll love it!
The crew are fantastic.. everyone is soo friendly and the hours are great too! Ontop of this regional flying means shorter flights and short trips ( one-two overnights per trip) and the passengers are mainly country folk and are all lovely too! Its certainly a great place to start flying as being a solo flight attendant provides you with invaluable experience! All the very best and please pm me i would love to stay in touch and see how you enjoy ur ground school and working for the company!

Hi Dean,
Everyone at REX is lovely, it's a great place to work.
Make sure you study every night for the tests the next day. During EP's make sure you have a group study session with others in your ground school, I found this invaluable.
Also make sure you know your two PA's that were sent to you with your starter pack, one less thing to memorise.
If you put in the work it will pay off.
Also remember it is not all about the exam marks, make sure you show your personality, they are also interested in how well you interact with trainers and fellow ground schoolers.

Is it true Rex expect you to quit your current job to attend 3 weeks unpaid ground school, after which there is still no guarantee of a job?

They advise you to take annual leave from your job, which is what most people do. After successful completion of ground school you are placed on a hold file and as positions become available you are offered employment. I believe the longest anyone has been on the hold file is 8 months, average seems to be a couple of months. The ground school is unpaid but you do get paid a meal allowance at the end of the ground school.

I thought this type of set up was illegal. Like employing someone on a 'trial basis' to see if it works out with no pay.
What if your employer found out you were on leave training for another job?....
The airlines really are stooping to new lows....

As long as people like hb78 think it's OK, then this sort of nonsense will continue.
Remember, it's not always possible to take leave from your current employer. Unpaid training/ground school I can stomach to some extent, as you are not contributing revenue, but for absolutely no guarantee of an immediate start? As long as this practice continues, they won't be attracting the best possible candidates.

No need to be insulting Transition Layer. We don't all have the insider knowledge of the industry that others have. I appreciate your input though and will keep it in mind for future.

Don't go wih REX
I applied and got a position on Rex ground school and was stupid enough to take 3 weeks unpaid leave off my normal job and ended up having to resign as they found out I was doing ground school. At the end of Ground school we found out it would be more like 6-8 months to get placed rather than 2-3 months as discussed in the interview and in the phone call when I got the job..... they gave us this bombshell information on the LAST day! So much for looking after their people! So I decided to go for other airlines and have found a much better position with another airline completed ground school and will start flying before most of those from my class. Out of 11 in my class 5 are working for Rex and one is about to resign cause she got a job with another airline.... Rex is a small airline thinking they are a big player and people think starting out there will get them somewhere? Think again that is why they don't pay for ground school... they know people are going to leave on them for better or more professional airlines. Don't waste your time with Rex.....
