Netjets, how long to upgrade?

As known, Netjets, wisely or not, want you to start your career with them on the right seat, disregarding any experience or previous rank you might bring along.
Heard thru the grapevine that the time to LHS has jumped from ca 3 months a year ago to about 2 years now :hmm:

Any truth in that?
Is the seniority list strictly respected?

Depends on acft type. Right now it seems one to two years is about the right figure.

A bidding system is in place and senority is strictly respected

Hope that helps

. . . for re-opening this thread. As a matter of fact, a few things changed lately worth mentioning. Upgrade is not driven by expansion and pure needs, now its more a cost efficiency factor. The finance department will decide on the amount of upgrades next year which is not an appealing situation per sé. :ugh:

Even worse, a few crewmembers which joined lately, some of them highly experienced and qualified, were promised fast upgrade. Accepted the pay-cut and were hoping to pin on the fourth stripe again soon. And now? Get in line with the seniority and if you are Number 1100 you might have some time to think on the right seat. :(

It appears that recruiting comes to a stop for a while, we still get new aircarft delivered, but a few old ones will leave too. So overall a neutral situation.
NTA is transforming to a normal progression kind of semi-airline with the normal waiting time for upgrade.

However solid prepared for the upcoming stormy business season, I guess we have just seen the tip of the industry correction process and to be honest, it feels good to know that Uncle Warren is making smart deals right now.

Will be intresting to see how Jet Republic and Co will get thru if they even get their nose into the wind.
Especially with those skippers.:D

Was told (August) to expect 18 months to 2 years, probably closer to 2 years.
If the world economy continues on its merry way down the drain it may be longer.

Was also told that seniority applies to fleet change rather than upgrade, so if bidding for small cabin LHS then maybe 2 years. If bidding for larger type, get in line.(10+ for G5 etc.)

Quite a lot of folk with less than the requisite 3000hrs and with the small amount of flying, hours building can be a slow process so position in seniority list not the be all and end all.

Days of upgrade after indoc seem to be gone.

As a newbie I am more than willing to be corrected.

We had a message in our 'snapshot' yesterday saying to stop rumours about upgarde courses doing the rounds, there would be no upgrade courses until next year.

Thats only 3 months, and as we have seen, a lot can change in 3 months.

Flintstone 3rd Oct 2008 18:04

'Fast track commands' are a thing of the past even for people hired on that basis.

You're overcrewed.

You've too many new aircraft ordered.

Last month the number of owners leaving was for the first time equal to the number of shares sold.

For the foreseeable future I think that three months can only go one way.

northern boy 3rd Oct 2008 18:38

Oh well, missed the boat yet again.:ugh:

Still a better lifestyle than many airlines though.

Flintstone 3rd Oct 2008 18:57

Sit tight and you'll be fine. You might have to wait and they may faff with your T&C's to guarantee their bonuses but too much cash has been spunked to ever close the place down.

SpainFly 3rd Oct 2008 20:45

When more Owners leave than join, and NTA is overcrewed as well, isnt the logical response that NTA will have to lay off some crews pretty soon ?

Or did I get something wrong ? Arent you concerned about your jobs ?!?

Thanks Flinty and Amen !!!!!

I guess all pilots are a bit worried these days, but for now I do not feel worried as NJE pilot.

SpainFly 4th Oct 2008 09:24

And what especially makes you not feeling worried ?
e.g. would you take a big morgage now and build a house ?!?

Twin2040 4th Oct 2008 12:28

I all ready got a big mortage - in order to clearify = I do not feel more worried over many other airlines - tough times ahead - that goes for all segments of the businessworld - whatever you do for a living - aviation, banking what ever.

Spainfly,

I would be happy to take up a bigger mortgage, if I could find the right house to spend it on (which might become a little cheaper in the near future, but that's another thing). After an explosive period, growth is slowing down. That's not a bad thing as we have some work lying around in every department that needs catching up. Also, we're definitely more efficient than we've ever been before, doing fewer ferry flights than ever. I'd be worried working for Alitalia, but NJE...

Erik.
