EBACE - Going ahead?

What are peoples thoughts on EBACE going ahead / not going ahead this year due to the Coronavirus, if this Italian hot spot carries on expanding?

From what I heard on the inside, a much bigger problem with EBACE is an increasingly questionable value for money. Overpriced, overhyped, wrong location...

The Geneva Car show is still going ahead next week.Is interesting to see what will happen with that in the next few days.

@JRK Re Geneva: yes expensive but only a short ride to the city and everything close together. Name any other city that can host such an event with both ramp space, event space and good airline connections. It is mainly the bl@@dy expensive hotels that make it so expensive...

Aso,
I was talking more about value for money, than pure cost. These expo's are often of dubious benefit to business and more of a corporate joy break for the middle and senior managers.
Have they increased the fees, btw? I know last year at least one big exhibitor was complaining to the organisers and appealing for them to consider moving it elsewhere...

No idea

I like EBACE a lot as I can see all the people that I want to meet in one place in three days. Main issue I have is that there are too many people to meet so you don't get to really speak all of them. But still I rather do 1 EBACE a year instead of 10 small events or meetings so for us it is definitely value for money (except for the bl@@dy hotels)

Aso,
Understood. Thanks for sharing your point of view on it. Perhaps I'm looking at it from a wrong angle, lol..

p.s. Belgian beer is best! (esp tripel karameliet...)

Geneva is an excellent location for EBACE for some reasons and awful for others.

Principally the expo halls and airport are very well co-located with sufficient parking and easy access to all areas.
There are a lot of connections by air and rail travel and it is pretty much central in Europe.
Almost everybody and everything you might need is there, if you plan well in advance and organise......

There are a range of lessor cost hotel and accommodation options but that means either a little more travel 30-60 minutes, an ability to accept less than a full 5* Palace accommodation for the 4 hours sleep one is lucky to get, before the next day begins.
The cost of attending is excessive.............NBAA/EBACE massively overcharge and that keeps many away which is gradually diminishing the worth of the event. The whole reason to go is that everybody else is there and you can just about guarantee to see all the people and companies and aircraft and things you would like for the year..as parties don't go, that diminishes the value and then less and less will go. It collapse very fast.......if things don't improve this year...and there are no signs they will then 2021 will be half the size and 2022 the last one....unless the dozen or so diehards that turn up for 2023 can keep the spark alive.

EBACE doesn't work if only the wealthiest companies and only the very senior persons turn up for 2 days. It needs to be reasonably priced so many of the middle managers, workers and crew can take a day and visit. That is quickly not becoming the case.

The Geneva International Motor Show has been cancelled after the Swiss government banned large events of more than 1,000 people as a measure to help combat the spread of coronavirus.

In all my years I NEVER had to pay for a ticket as the Manufacturers kindly gave me one.... I dont understand this NBAA/EBAA bashing as the cost for a ticket for 3 days on their website is only 194 Euro... That is less than 3 days Disneyland

But again apart from the hotel cost our company still sees it as a great way to see a lot of people and we paid the same cost for attending the Paris Air Show and EBACE cost us far less than the Farnborough Air Show.. Both Farnborough and Paris cost us more in taxis than GVA in hotels let alone the time spend in taxis .

On the plus side we won't have the EBACE bill to contend with as well as the downturn. Every cloud...!
