Crew ID cards

The german company you refer to are very good at making crew ID cards. The only trouble is that they don't check credentials too carefully hence we have two fraudsters at large using Crew Cards in our company name - and we have never employed cabin crew or pilots!!!

I am curious about this…

I have done a few freelance trips and on the two where we were night stopping, my lack of ID caused issues. Both at European major airports.

Both pilots had company issued ID cards and walked straight through passport control without issue… I was quizzed to the nth degree as to who I was, why I had no ID, why I was not using an ID card etc… I showed my passport and they said that it was "most unusual" but they would allow me through.

Have I done something wrong?

As a freelance person, does it mean I have to ask each company I freelance for, to issue me an ID card?

Crew Cards

All decent Trip Support companies offer Crew ID's for around $50.

Universal, Rockwell/ARINC, Jetex, Jepp etc to name a few. I work for one of the aforementioned but they are all the same sort of thing.

Just contact them and ask.

Hi TS.

Yes, it's a bit of a charade this ID business…at least in the developed world. An ID certainly helps to get you through GA airport security and they will look for an ID, I always have one on a lanyard around my neck, but have NEVER had anyone take a close look at it or even a vague glance. The problem as I see it is that there is no standardized ID so security has no way to easily check for authenticity..so they don't bother.

I believe a library card with a picture would get you past security most of the time…not that I would recommend trying this. Just making a point.

The IBAC ID is a fairly easy (<$100) one to get but you will need a "company representative" to sign the application. Perhaps you could ask your next contract operator if they would be willing to help you with this?

In any case if you can get a generic crew ID made (online?) with your name and picture I would think that would solve your issue.
