Hello,

Could anyone please advise where ICAO approved Crew ID badges can be issued to pilots flying Private Jet aircraft from the UK ?

AOPA provide an Aircrew ID card as do PPLIR. Membership of both also helps power the European lobbying voice.

None that I am aware off. Crew ID is usually issued either by a company as we do at work or a a member or a recognised organisation. I am sure you could have your own made but what use it would be is a different matter!!

What exactly do you want to do with it?

Your talking about potentially 3 things:-

ICAO Crew Certificate

Company issued ID Card

Airport issued airside ID card.

To get the middle one get your company to issue it.. If your the boss or a one man band then you need to get one made yourself.

The airport ID would depend on which airport your based from the procedure onto get it.

As for the ICAo crew member certificate... No idea

I can understand the need for an airport ID card, or even the need for some kind of ID card to prove that you are an employee of an airline/company, for example, but what other card do you need?

There is no need for a "crew/pilot ID card." If you are a crew member and you want airside access to your aircraft, then a crew licence and passport (or national ID card) is all that is required.

I think I understand what you are after. I have been to many airports where the lack of a crew ID means a painfull diversion all over the airport to get to the aircraft, also, sometimes difficulty in obtaining crew visa's. If you are with a company produce your own in house, if you are freelance produce your own with your trading name, the best is to get an airport pass from your base airport. They all work just fine, shows just what a load of bxxxxx it all is. I confess I do not know what an ICAO approved ID badge is.

Jeppesen produce them, contact the International Trip Planning Team who can organise it for you.

Never had any problems with the IBAC badges, they're fairly straightforward to get but you have to be supported by an organization that is a member of NBAA, EBAA or similar.

Nuname hit the nail on the head with what we are after, an ID by which we could enter into countries without getting our passport stamped (ie Dubai), also something a "security troll" won't laugh at.

I googled it a while back and seen that there are ICAO guidelines on crew ID dimension's and info that should be printed on it, however, I did think though that Crew ID would have been the kind of thing that had to be approved by some kind of agency and not simply something you could make up yourself.

Do you need to be a customer of the jepp planning service in order to get a crew ID card ?

Works fine. Also gets you discounts at hotels and car rentals.

I have yet to see an aircrew ID card get someone through passport control. I have never achieved it and we travel pretty extensively.

An aircrew ID card is not a passport. Even when I have followed the airline crews through they have always been passport checked.

You maybe peeing in the wind on that one, especially if a private operator.

Few years ago I landed in Orly and forgot my Crew ID - card in the airplane.

After a lengthy discussion I was guarded by two policemen, driven to the airplane and got my crewbadge.

With that I could pass the checkpoint. My pilots license with passport did not interest anyone at all.

The crewbadge is self made and signed by me.

Makes one wonder...

German LBA does not issue the ICAO crew card anyone flying for an AOC operation can get. Privat ops is unworthy...

Wont help you, we still have to get our passports taken, reviewed etc in Dubai even though we have Crew ID's.

Depends on the country, in the UK we have freely arrived and departed without any checks on passport or crew ID.... But in the USA, the crew ID is worthless without a D visa. Some German airports wont accept passport or ID as proof, they want a "crew member" certificate.

Easier to get a second passport. I have one for exactly that purpose.

Mutt : In Dubai, if you have no crew ID your passport will get a visa stamp, If you have a crew ID I think your allowed 7 days without them stamping your passport.

Gonna try a call to the peeps at Jeppesen when I get home.

I have spent many days sitting in an airside room in the FBO as they weren't interested in going through the hassle of clearing our passports, and thats with crew ID and a valid gen dec.....

What's the issue with getting your passport stamped?

I went through Dubai many times without a stamp in the passport. With Jet Aviation the crew were entered on the Gen Dec and Crew ID's (Which were made in house by our own company)

Just make sure you don't stay longer than the 7 days. Did that once and it was a lot of extra hassel.

Because you will soon run out of pages in your passport if you fly round the Africa or the Middle East much.

There was a company in Germany not long ago that would make up Air Crew ID Badges Credit Card style to your spec which seemed to work well. Can't remember their name at the moment.

Many places we visit want a nice fresh page for each stamp to go onto, Dubai in particular and since we seem to be in and out there allot these days, thought it might be an idea to get an acceptable crew ID so we can do the Gen Dec thang !

Whilst I do carry 2 passports at all times, it's just a bit of a pain in the arse to get a new one issued.
