Ferry Pilot

Hi

I realise this may not be a good time to be asking this question but the recent threads have made me curious about the whole ferry flying industry.

I would very much like to do this one day. I am not another RW and I would obviously want to learn the correct way. My question then is how would one go about learning the ropes and getting the required experience?

I understand that most ferry pilots would prefer extra fuel/survival equipment to an extra person in the aircraft but surely any potential ferry pilots would fly with an experienced ferry pilot for a while before going alone?

Second the above, also interested, although the idea of single engine over water wider than the narrow bit of the Channel makes me feel vaguely queasy so perhaps I'm not cut out for it...
