I do agree with you opsbeatch.

How about 'because its the right thing to do'. And gratuitous 'absolutely' and 'fundamental' liberally sprinkled in, also irk me.

To me they usually indicate someone is trying to sound more experienced/informed than they are, at the expense of using straight talk.

Think this is one for jet-blast probably!

My top 5 vomit-inducing sayings would probably be:

1. "thinking outside the box"
2. "dynamic"
3 "firm orders"
4. "interesting paradox" or "a shifting of the paradigm"
5. "positioned to be a leader in the industry"

My pet hate is "If you think about it" normally in response to a perfectly normal and reasoned statement. It is because I have thought about it that I am saying whatever it is I am saying!!!!!

DC10RealMan:

Totally! They play the "ha ha you are such a simple man....don't you get it?" routine to mask their complete ineptitude. This is usually followed by some worn out cliche. Example:

Interviewer: "What is your plan to increase market share and increase revenue in Q4?"

Manager: "Well if you think about it, planes flying paying passengers = more money....you know planes sitting on the ground cost money...(followed by a fake chuckle).

I remember hearing a manager say to me "as we move forward in time, we need to blah blah blah". I turned off at that point. I was dying to ask, so as we move forward, that implies it's possible to move backwards?

But the ones that really gets my goat up is "blue sky thinking" or "strategic use of resources" ie. redundancy.

Apologies in advance for not being in GA in any capacity.
I feel very strongly about subject so hope I am ok to reply.

As an ex Logistics Manager at some time in the past I tried not to fall into such phrases.
Some of my pet hates:

Singing from the same hyme sheet.
Get all your ducks lined up.
This point in time.
Downsising.
Blue sky thinking.
Wake up and smell the coffee.
Hit the ground running.

Etc Etc Etc

I thought that's the most commonly uttered phrase of the eternally single pilot upon entering a nightclub?

Uncle Wiggily, I think the phrase you are looking for is.... "smells a bit, she'll do!"

Going forward, we're working in partnership (except I as your manager won't be working weekends, Christmas etc) to grow the business and build a sustainable future going forward. Going forward. Big dogs, long grass, yah?

Sitting with an Owner/HR...and I am given the company 'packet' of thier philosophy(s)...mission statements...core values..team building concepts...so thick, my shredder can't handle it....

Just once I would like to say out loud...

"Look, I know your full of crap, your a greedy bastard that made alot of money anyway you could....so save the speech for the guys that have no code, values, or father figure to look up to. I'm a merc...the guy at the airport that flies your plane and tries NOT to come into the office...nor am I part of a team, because looking around the only team out at the hangar is me.

Yep. "Going forward" is my absolute, ultimate pet hate. It is the most pointless expression I've ever heard. It makes me wince so hard that I've pulled muscles in meetings.

Anything that turns a simple phrase or explanation into something which is trying to sound clever really gets my goat.
