Expensive Handling

Hi chaps,

In your experience where are the most expensive Western European airports for basic handling. I have just done a little experiment in actually giving a firm quotation including actual handling from FAB and the handling assumes 18% of the flight quotation!

Any other airports that would be worth a look at instead of being burned adding a generic landing and handling charge per sector?

Thanks

TB

You add a generic Handling fee? What weight of aircraft are you operating, even at the light end of the market complete turnaround fees differ from £80 to £1800. If you just add an average you become very attractive for the ones that lose you money and very unattractive for the ones that make you money.

Just a generic fee for planning and budget purposes. We are building up our database of basic handling charges as we progress but we were just wondering if there were airports like FAB/LCY/FRA etc that have larger than average landing fees that we should pinpoint as a matter of course.

Dropped in for a quick fuel stop recently in Vienna in a 604, the bill for a 25 minute turnaround with NO services at all except a BP fuel bowser (paid for separately) was 720 Euros. All the airport fees were settled on another account leaving Vienna Handling with the whole 720 Euros for themselves for doing eff all........... I'm in the wrong business!

I'm sure there's a long running post with expensive handling fees and their airports elsewhere which should throw up some candidates to consider.

Ha the technical term for that in economics is 'adverse selection'. Bad drivers tend to choose the low deductible insurance plans, fat people are more likely to go to the all-you-can-eat restaurant, etc.

Guys lets take it at face value. we are not the US where all is based on a fuel upload. My primary concern is the c"@p service we get from these so called FBO's which we pay a fortune to. Enough I say will start to activley play the assH@LEs against each other.......

This @sshole does not work in Paris so unable to help there - but does think that our FBO does provide an excellent service and value.
If I use a facility and don't think it is value for money I generally tell the facility and remind them that there is competition out there and give them the opportunity to keep my business. Works for me - so why not tell the FBO that's peeing you off?
FBOs do have high overheads because airport owners charge them very expensive rentals. Many operators use fuel carnets so there is nothing for the FBO from fuel. Factor in staffing, heating and lighting, tea and coffee 24/7 and you can't provide a US type service in the UK without making a reasonable charge. We have to try to provide a good service and hope that it gives us the edge over the competition.

ouch Cleo

no need to get so touchy feely

my boss wants in and wants out, what he does not want is the crap that you french give us when we come and spread our hard earned doe.

Lets rather count the steps that the owner puts through your precious FBO and pay per step and it will still work out cheaper.

suck to you. now I am peeved. try running a CFD.

I apologize Cleo, your maybe not French and should clarify my argument, your FBO's should maybe should stop ripping us GA off so we can land and justify the airports.

number one question from the boss: "What is the FBO going to cost me?"

Dear Sirs (Women too)

Cleo, are you impartial so to speak...

I understand what you say having been on both sides of the fence.

Cost in this day and age is king. Anything else and your'e kidding yourself.
