Vista Jet & DC Aviation ACJs

I read that both of these companies either currently have or have recently ordered several Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJs). Vista Jets already operates a few and has more on order while DC Aviation operates one with three on order. Generally speaking, where do these companies (and others like Comlux) get their ACJ pilots? Do they hire mainly people with Airbus experience (airlines) or do they staff these internally with senior Gulfstream/Challenger pilots who move up to the ACJ? How does someone land a ACJ FO position at one of these companies - do you need to join the company first and fly another type or just have experience on type?

With that said, does anyone know much about QOL/schedules for the existing ACJs at either company? Do these schedules tend to differ from those of the smaller aircraft in terms of time away from home, etc.? Clearly these airplanes are made to fly further - does this translate into typically more flying and time away from base? Anyone know much about life for these pilots vs. those on other fleets? Is it desirable flying?

PMs welcome.

Re Flying on an ACJ:-there is only 2 Companies that currently operate ACJs in Europe. They mainly recruite Airbus rated guys, that is obviously a cost driven decision. It could be any AB rating (320/330/340) as long as you have a valid &current JAR Licence. These guys will mostly come from Airlines. Ideally you would now mix these guys with Corporate Aviation experienced guys that have been flying biz Aircraft within the company for a while. Thus both will profit from each other. One will learn how to operate a "big "Aircraft in a line-style"manner whereas the other will learn the bits and pieces that make biz Aviation differerent from Airlines.
The A318 Elite has a Range Problem (3000NM) so you are not talking long-range,( check a GlobalXpress!!) but ideally Europe-Middle East (where most of the customers actually are). In an A319 you can reach up to 6000NM depending of how many ACT (Aux Center Tanks) you are carrying. The long-haulers are still the Gulfstreams and the Globals. Hope that gives you an idea. puh

You sure there are only 2 operators of ACJs in Europe?

I know of around 6 that operate them commercially.

to my knowledge,yes..there are two VIP/VVIP ACJ Operators:
1.Comluxaviation 1 A319/ 1 A318 Elite
2.Globaljetconcept 1 A318

I believe Vistajet do not hav any Airbusses yet.
There are of course AF and BA that operate A318 commercially, but rather in an Airline config and not in a VIP/VVIP Configuration.

Twinjet (G-), DC Aviation (D-), Whitejet (CS-), Aero Services(F-) plus the 2 you have mentioned spring to mind.

Latest on flying the new ACJs for DC Aviation...

I realise I asked this same question months ago - but I thought I would ask for an update. What's the latest with DC Aviation and the ACJs? I read that they just added 3 Airbus ACJs. Are the ACJ pilots basically hired from the airlines or do the promote from within from the smaller corporate jets?

I realise we are talking about adhoc charter (which is inherently unstable in terms of schedule), but what would schedule look like for ACJ pilots at DC Aviation? How many days off per month likely? Why would someone leave an airline operating Airbus (i.e., Air Berlin, Easy, etc) to go to DC Aviation to fly their ACJs?

Any updates? PMs welcome. Cheers

Why would someone leave an airline operating Airbus (i.e., Air Berlin, Easy, etc) to go to DC Aviation to fly their ACJs?
Let me see:
- Fly a brand new ACJ to great destinations and stay in great hotels and have a good salary and a life beside it
- Fly a bus overflowing with pax day and night to the same routes in Europe and be back every night or stay in basic hotels

Well I don't think that DCA's ACJ is exactly brand new.

Whitejet (CS-), Aero Services(F-)

These two count as one.
And its White Airways, as Whitejet is a subsidiary company from Brazil.

Does Eurofly still have their ACJ's?

Cheers

No, Eurofly's ACJ's (which were all business class config) have gone. Eurofly has amalgamated with Meridiana...

BTW Comlux has 3 x A318's (9H-AFL, 9H-AFM & 9H-AFT), 2 x A319's (9H-AFK, 9H-SNA plus 2 in completion 9H-ALX & 9H-AVK) and an A320 Prestige (9H-AWK) joining in March 2011.

That's a lot for Comlux!
Masterjet has one ACJ as well and will soon get a 320 Prestige.
