Baltic Air Charter Association (BACA)

What do our broker/operator/handler members etc. think of BACA?

I'm attending the BACA lunch for the first time. I'm certainly aware that bi-annual lunches are a good social and networking function. But, what about what BACA does in the background for it's members?

I know they vitoed the CAA's attempt to push ATOL on brokers some years ago. I have been speaking to a council member and some other members recently just to get a feel for how their function is perceived.

I want to see them out there looking out for the needs of brokers of all sizes and doing more to promote this side of the industries' causes....

What do you think?

Current BACA 'work in progress' include:

The US situation regarding the DOT and Brokers liability.
The Treasury review of ADT.
Green issues and their impact on Brokers.
Access for Biz jets at major airports.
Representation at the EU Commission.
Illegal PT
Contract law.
Professional code of conduct for Charter Brokers.
PR
The effect of EU Regulation on non-EU registered aircraft.
The effect of non EU cargo aircraft.
UK and/or EU Regulation of Brokers.
Quality audits of Brokers and Airlines.
A BACA 'Quality' mark.

Please talk to any of the Council members on Thursday. Hope you enjoy the experience.

Valid points Treesurgeon.

BACA continues to grow in voice and membership. The association works alongside some of the aviation regulatory organisations, lobbies at parliament level, and the work the association undertakes is very much pro-active in open discussions with many of these bodies on the issues mentioned above, and more....

Introduce yourself on Thursday....

On Thursday morning I will love them.

On Friday morning I will hate them for the stinking hangover they will have been responsible for...

it was as always a good day out. But, as you also point out there is a downside. I'm still half-cut and feeling ill, and then there is 3 nights of EBACE to follow next month.....

I know they vitoed the CAA's attempt to push ATOL on brokers some years ago.
As a body representing brokers they should insist that their members are ATOL bonded. This whole industry is largely unregulated and allows cowboys to sell air charter from a garden shed.

This is why the US DOT is seeking to prevent brokers from selling air charter without economic authority (financial fitness test). I wish the CAA would introduce similar regulations here to get rid of all the parasites who wish to make a quick buck without assuming any liability when things go wrong (their contracts are full of disclaimers).

Don’t get me wrong, there are many brokers who protect their clients, but there are also many ‘wannabes’ who take their client’s money and run.

If anyone from BACA is reading this thread, start putting some safeguards into place so that membership of BACA actually means something. Maybe you should have liability insurance, so that brokers’ clients can make a financial claim against the association, if they have lost money through the actions of one of your members.

If members of the public are reading this thread – my advice would be to look out for brokers who have ATOLs. At least you know that they are financially sound and that your money is safe.

Discuss.
