Gulfstream Plane book

Anybody used the new gulfstream Planebook yet? any comments to make about it. How does it compare to having the paper version to hand?? has anybody used jepview with it??


First Impressions?

We just installed the EFBs in one of our Gulfstreams. There is a learning curve, but my first impression? Outstanding! Great SA.

Planebook is basically a Fujitsu P1610 series tablet PC with a really nice menu screen. Been using the 1610 system for more than a year (NO paper charts on board) and it has performed flawlessly. Really nice to have the every 6 minute weather downloads on the screen.

How do you guys mount it? Is it mounted to the yoke somehow?

Had a go with it in KSAV during recurrent at FSI. I loved it, very intuitive. As a matter of interest it takes 45 seconds from picking it up, turning it on, to being able to go to the page you want.
Sadly, my company has no plans to get any.

Nice Kit

Very nice piece of kit. I would guess that most operators will just use it like a laptop/manual ( info-inflite 'navwise' is already provided by the planeview very nicely ). Very intuitive to use and the library is very nice with a checklist link feature that allows you to click-thru to expanded info using emer and abnormal checklists. Good perf planning functionality and a very cool w&b program, all I need to need to do now is get it to talk to the acft lan so I can hard copy the sheets!

I'd love one personally but being a GV/550 freelancer I can't afford it! Oh, and it is s/n acft specific of course!

Talk to me Goose

I wish the LAN could talk to my Laptop, or even to a real printer, not the official trash.

I always obtain a HP ink jet printer, with every collection, and use this, with my lap top. But if only we could place both on the LAN, and as BBCapt requests be interactive.

As an aside, why does the 550, need an extra box, when this could all be provided on cert E.....and corrected on cert F, and then removed on Cert G....

Upgrades

How can I put this without seeming cynical. $$$ thats why! Really though, this is a good solution to carry all the docs you might need around with you when not at the acft, and some you might not unless you can't sleep!

Current Cert D brought the avionics up to the spec that Gulfstream promised on day one. Cert E will be the first 'pay' upgrade but will give planeview an amazing 3d virtual imap amongst many other promised toys.

I wonder about the legality of mandatory upgrades that are optional to purchase.

Are you getting any freelance / contract work.....I hear there is a lot around, thinks the same route myself.

I have all the docs on my lap top, do I need a sherpa too....

One assumes that the type cert is 'frozen' with the features of cert D and other add ons are like optional STC or similar. Nice to have but not required by the regulatory authorities ( not mandatory I understand ).

Might not be required, but

when doing a recurrent, can you specify, the cert that your airframe is certified to.

Two crew from different companies working to different certs, not my idea of safe training.

For exampe I was on a G550 D recurrent a few weeks ago, and the other guy was only C, as freelancer, not safe, as we had different ideas re the lates options on the big boys toys.

Lastly, I wish you luck on the contract work, feel free to PM me with your overflow, there are very few good experienced crew in the contract market these days.....hint hint.......ssa

Certs

Well, you can try! FSI are teaching both cert C and D concurrently as there are still acft out there with cert C waiting to have the upgrade. So a freelance pilot should know both. Those crews flying only one airframe should be able to get more specific.
