Seeking Commander 690B information

Hi all,

This is my first time here, so I hope I'm in the right place. I'm cabin crew in Aus and have a love microsoft (don't cringe) Flight sim. I started to learn to fly, but bought a wife and daughter instead. My wife asures me that I can take up flying again next year, but she has said that for the last four years!

If there are any Rockwell Commander 690B pilots out there who could help me with my questions I would love to get in contact with them.

I'm looking for power settings for the 690B. Take off, climb, cruise etc and how to set them.

There are many real world pilots who like to fiddle around with home flight sims (MSFS)

If you go to a specialist flight sim site like http://www.avsim.com you will find many forums and people who will answer any questions you may.

I am always amazed by the level of knowledge these guys have

Have been with AVSIM for a while, but I can't seem to get in at the moment, says I have "cookie problems". I tried re-registering but have the same probs.

I'm still interested in getting info on the 680B if anyone wants to. Would love to get a rundown of a flight.

Hi,

I fly a 690 and 690A and assume they are almost the same as a B. To set take off power you push the throttles forward to the stop unless the hp limiter is broken. Pull them back a bit for the climb.
Sorry, if you have any specific questions I could probably help although not completely 690B specific.
If it has the same engines it will be identical as far as power settings etc. The 690 and 690A I fly have the TPE-331-5 engines.

The aircraft that I'm trying to fine tune in FS9 is a 690B with TPE-331-5-251K turboprops, the info I got with the aircraft strangely dosen't mention the SHP.

Could you please let me know a couple of details if that's ok?

First, you mention that you basicaly set full throttle for take off. Is there an ITT limit that you have to observe when setting this? Does the HP limiter stop you (under normal conditions) from breaching this ITT? What sort of ITT do you get?

Secondly, When setting climb power do you have to keep an eye on the ITT for the climb and adjust acordingly or do the engines not reach the max ITT? At what sort of ALT would you start to reach the max ITT? What sort of ITT would I be getting at 10,000 and 20,000 feet?

The documents that came with the aircraft recomend 99-100.5%RPM with 717.5 HP and a limit of 932 deg C on the ITT at take off and 96%RPM/717.5 HP/905 deg C for climb. Is this accurate? What sort of cruise climb rate would you expect at 10,000 and 20,000 at Max and mid weight? What speed do you set for this climb rate?

What is the minimum decent setting for the engines?

Just a couple more, I hope your still with me!!!

The panel that comes with the plane I have doesn't have a full explanation with it. The panel has throttles and what the developer calls condition levers. The problem I have is that the condition levers controll the Prop! Is this corect? If not, how do you set the prop RPM or is it automatically set. When flying a KingAir, you only really use High RPM on the condition lever during start up, but the operating handbook that came with the 690B mentions setting HI RPM on the condition lever for take off and landing and "as required" during climb and cruise, is this correct, or do you set the condition levers to LOW RPM after engine start as in the King Air? Do you set the condition levers to LOW by using the enginge RPM (about 65%) or is there a detent on the throttle?

I hope that I haven't over stepped the mark with the essay of questions that I have asked you, but the 690 is my favorite light aircraft and as I would never be able to afford a real one, I'm hoping to get as close as I possibly can through flight sim.
