A Greek glider maybe? Anemopsaro?
The Anemopsaro was a flying boat glider intended to be launched behind a speedboat. The drag of the towline in the water was found to be a big problem. A payout winch on the speedboat would have been the answer, but the builders seemed to have lost enthusiasm before trying it. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....d0192371c7.jpg More about the Anemopsaro (Flying Fish) here Tu.114, over to you. |
Thank You, Mechta.
I must admit that it was a lucky find: it is obviously a seaplane, I found no indication whatsoever of an engine, and there was a general air of fun emanated by this aircraft. "Seaplane glider" went into the search engine as a puny first attempt and without much hope, and up came a picture. Here is a picture that will likely be not even close to posing a challenge to You all: https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....460680cb54.png |

Well done Tu.114! I expected it to take a lot longer than that.

There's a similar example in a museum in the Lake District but built by Slingsby. It was known as "the barge". :) |
Here is a little hint: the picture shows an incomplete mockup of an unflown type.

No, this is not an Avro/HS design, and the nacelle was not to house a Dart.

Let me guess - is it a T21 with a flying boat hull?

Shades of the VFW614.
Maybe a mock up of a jet powered Electra or IL18? |
This is not a derivate of any other type. It was designed as a jet from the beginning, a turboprop version was never planned.
It is an European design and was part of a rather ambitious programme that yielded only minor results including, oddly enough, a sizeable truck factory. |

Zaxis, this is not only the aircraft but also the same picture I found and clipped a little.
This is the 155 jetliner concept that was designed at the Dresden state aircraft works in the 1950s until the summary cancellation of the entire GDR aircraft programme in 1961. There were multiple design variations differing in size and details of engine placement due to some issues in deciding on a definitive engine type. This model seems to be the slightly bigger, Pirna-018 or -020 powered design variant. The GDRs economic situation proved too weak for such a large project, some key personnel took a permanent leave for the west, and Soviet designs like the Tu-124 were already flying and made sales of the 152 and 155 rather unlikely. So the plug was pulled. Some Pirna 014 engines seem to have lived on in military ships, the Pirna works continued building some small gas turbines e. g. for mobile emergency generators, and the large, now unneeded engine plant at Ludwigsfelde was reassigned to build the well known IFA W50 truck. It did so until 1990 and is now owned by Daimler-Benz. The type designation of the Dresden works was officially only the number, Baade or other names were never officially used and seem to stem from western periodicals. Sequentially, these numbers may have been a continuation of the Junkers Entwicklungsflugzeuge (Development aircraft) EF numbering. An interesting Might-have-been, I think. Congratulations and you have control! |
Thank you Tu114.
That was a difficult one! I think we both found the only real photograph of the mockup, it's that rare. The rest of the 150 series of designs are an interesting bunch, all doomed to go nowhere. My next challenge is .... https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....127798eab7.jpg |

Quite correct Noyade, back to you.

While idly scrolling through pictures of US biplanes, I stumbled on the Curtiss Falcon O-11:
