Glad you're back... But sorry, you're off the mark.

Herod 9th January 2012 16:47

Nimrod perhaps? Not very likely, but it's time this thread came nearer the top.

TheiC 9th January 2012 19:37

Sadly, no.

Yellow Sun 9th January 2012 20:36

Dominie?

YS

TheiC 9th January 2012 21:10

Again, sadly, no.

Herod 13th January 2012 21:47

Where is everybody? I know my brain hurts, but there must be someone out there with a smattering of brain cells.

NutherA2 14th January 2012 08:42

Desperate guess.......Avro 523 Pike?

Tankertrashnav 14th January 2012 16:51

but there must be someone out there with a smattering of brain cells.
Seems this one require a bit more than a smattering

Are we allowed to give in and have another one - just a teensy, weensy bit easier?

NutherA2 14th January 2012 17:35

Perhaps a not-too-cryptic clue?

TheiC 15th January 2012 03:46

NutherA2, don't forget to

Get rid of stiffness at the end and keep going round.
;)

TheiC 15th January 2012 10:04

Mr Chopra's dictionary might help...

TheiC 15th January 2012 18:23

(That would be Mr S.B. Chopra).

Herod 15th January 2012 19:48

As in Dictionary of Mechanical Engineering?

TheiC 15th January 2012 21:02

Yes, exactly.

The frustration is palpable!!!

:):):)

Herod 17th January 2012 13:47

Jackaroo by any chance?

TheiC 17th January 2012 15:36

Not the Jackaroo, I'm afraid.

NutherA2's guess and the reply should take you there instantly...

Herod 17th January 2012 18:57

How's about "Picador", the Israeli UAV?

TheiC 17th January 2012 19:16

This one is nothing to do with an Israeli UAV...

NutherA2 was, in hide-and-seek terms, blisteringly hot, but had not dealt with the second part of the clue...

TheiC 18th January 2012 09:43

To help things along:

'Staff' led NutherA2 correctly to 'Pike'; Aubagne is home to the French Foreign Legion, who wear a Kepi. 'Tip' Kepi to get Pike.

Young's Modulus and the Rotational Constant will tidy things up to find a forum favourite; our antipodean correspondents will be pleased.

Threads such as these only maintain an interest if they keep moving.

I regularly set a quiz in an internet chat room (not aviation related). It's tricky judging your audience - make the questions too easy and it becomes a matter of who can type fastest, make them too hard and people get fed up never knowing the answers and don't come back.

I've had a couple of goes setting a clue on here which were obviously too easy (solved in less than an hour each time) but on the other hand this one is now around a fortnight old with no sign of being solved. Might I respectfully suggest we aim for something midway between 'Daily Mirror' and 'Listener' - 'Telegraph' standard perhaps?

Ready to be flamed if it's not what people want.
