Did this aircraft take part in the Lympne Light Aircraft Trials in 1923 or is a a more recent aircraft?

Noyade 9th June 2013 23:16

G'day Mel.

First flight was in 1951. Bembridge, Isle of Wight.

Excellent cropping Graeme, you should reapply for the vacant post at Dauntless. I thought we were looking at the engine fire wall and not the cowling side structure.:ok:

Are we looking at a racing aircraft or aircraft designed for a single purpose?
How about the Napier Lion in the Fairey Monoplane?

MReyn24050 12th June 2013 17:07

Yes the Fairey Long Rang monoplane II

Noyade 12th June 2013 21:20

Evening Mel. Yes, I tried to make it look "racey" or fighter-like in appearance. :)

All yours. :ok:

MReyn24050 12th June 2013 22:56

Great challenge Graeme. At first I thought it was an aircraft used in the Schneider Trophy competition. What got me thinking was the two rows of exhaust ports which led me to the Napier Lion a 12-cylinder broad arrow configuration aircraft engine and then the Fairey Monoplane which had a Napier Lion XIA.

Here is the next one:-
