Evening Graeme....MiG-19?

Lightning Mate 6th March 2011 08:06

It's a ringer for the Viggen, but something doesn't match.

skytrain10 6th March 2011 08:19

Expanding the MiG-19 theory, how about the Nanchang A-5M Fantan.

Lightning Mate 6th March 2011 08:21

Morning Ken. :)

I'm not convinced that the 19 had centreline store pylons, but the rest of the weapon/tank configuration looks right.

Then there's the problem with the fuselage cross-section. :uhoh:

skytrain10 6th March 2011 08:23

Morning David...the MiG-19 was just a guess from memory....now I've actually looked you'll see I've amended it :).

Lightning Mate 6th March 2011 08:26

Oh OK mate.

Then again, the Fantan had three weapons pylons beneath each wing.:ugh:

skytrain10 6th March 2011 08:33

Found a photo of a Q-5 Fantan with no pylons fitted! Trouble it there were so many adaptions....I'm sticking to the Fantan, either a Q5 or A5 variant.

Lightning Mate 6th March 2011 08:37

I think you're right.

The Q-5 original had two hardpoints on each wing, but the improved Q-5 IA model had three.

I can't do much else but wait for Graeme.

Also found this in it's specs - "tailplane has 6º 30' anhedral".

Toilet break.

Nanchang A-5M Fantan.
Clever man Ken! :D You had me at Fantan!
Your control.

RegDep 6th March 2011 09:13

Toilet break.
Was this a piece of itinerary report from you or a piece of advice to us Graeme?

skytrain10 6th March 2011 09:17

Cheers Graeme...hope you're enjoying the film...don't trust Raymond Burr!

Maintaining the theme:

Lightning Mate 6th March 2011 09:22

Mmmm - does it by any chance have negative stagger?

skytrain10 6th March 2011 09:35

negative stagger?
So much for disguising that then! Good call LM, it does indeed have a negative stagger:ok:

HappyPass 6th March 2011 09:43

'morning gents.
Looks like a Durand Mk V, except for the struts, which I can't see...

Lightning Mate 6th March 2011 09:45

That's only a small part of the problem solved!

Just a couple of little things such as cabin, cantilever, and tricycle! :ugh:

Morning Happypass. :)

I've looked at the Durand.

RegDep 6th March 2011 09:47

Did Griffon plan to do a follow-up to Lionheart with trike and in-line engine?

Has this flown?

HappyPass 6th March 2011 09:50

I've looked at the Durand.
I never expected the competition to be easy ;)

Lightning Mate 6th March 2011 09:50

Good question RD - I was about to ask the same.

I also think it may be filed under experimental homebuilt.

skytrain10 6th March 2011 09:51

Looks like a Durand Mk V, except for the struts, which I can't see...
. Not a Durand Happy Pass and there's a good reason you can't see any struts...there aren't any :)

Did Griffon plan to do a follow-up to Lionheart with trike and in-line engine?
No idea mate, but there is no connection with the Lionheart.

Has this flown?
Yep.

skytrain10 6th March 2011 09:55

I also think it may be filed under experimental homebuilt.
Not classified as such in Janes nor in web references that I have seen.
