Thanks Asturias!
This one is not yet on the list.
Its country is on the list

Looks like Van Gogh here has been very busy on that SAS Convair (I think it's a 440) but where are we? Definitely not Arles.

OUAQUKGF Ops 29th Jun 2021 19:02

Perhaps we are at Norrkoping Sweden ?

jensdad 29th Jun 2021 20:08

I know that Billund had a viewing area right in front of the terminal where there was just a little fence separating the public from the apron. Them were the days. Is it said airport?

Self loading bear 29th Jun 2021 21:03

Billund is on the list
Arles and Norkoping not yet, (thanks for the tip)

As I have still both my ears and do not pursue a painting career I have cleared most of my doodling:

It is indeed Bornholm
Nyrogede Bornholmere are fresh smoked herring.
Hollandse Nieuwe are new Dutch pickled herring.
How smoked or pickled herrings can be new or fresh, I don’t know.

Looking forward to your next photo quest

Thanks Bear. Lovely nostalgic Photograph. Many moons ago I once flew in something similar from Copenhagen to Esbjerg. I don't want to hog the Forum and if old Vincent hadn't suddenly left that clue on his easel I would have been none the wiser. Time to give somebody else a chance - so it's Open House and I'll take a back seat for a few weeks......

Once upon a time, there was a airfield in this neighbourhood..

Asturias56 2nd Jul 2021 07:48

Assuming north is at the top the trees top right indicate very long shadows for mid morning - even in a northern winter

Are we in Europe?

teusje 2nd Jul 2021 11:00

No, it's a long way from Europe.
Here's the same neighbourhood, several decades earlier.

Asturias56 2nd Jul 2021 12:20

not much traffic on the big avenue........... no big sports fields & shortage of swimming pools suggests it's not USA - Japan perhaps?

teusje 2nd Jul 2021 14:56

Well actually, it is the USA.

Asturias56 2nd Jul 2021 15:35

Ah well - there goes the scientific approach

It might be Hamilton Field N of San Francisco but doesn't look quite right.............

teusje 2nd Jul 2021 18:29

No, not Hamilton Field.

good job it was raining this morning - I'd never realised the P-61's operated from so many places in the USA. Bit easier when I figured out it was a P-47 in #173

I think it's Kipapa on Oahu, Hawaii??

teusje 3rd Jul 2021 14:32

You got it, Asturias, over to you.

Asturias56 4th Jul 2021 07:59

Here's one quite a long way from Hawaii

Just a stab in the dark, but could it be Cascais, Portugal?

Asturias56 5th Jul 2021 07:35

No - but right sort of thinking - not a million miles away..............

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....f0be5121b1.jpg

jensdad 6th Jul 2021 01:19

Another stab in the dark... Evora?

Asturias56 6th Jul 2021 08:22

No - we're not in Portugual

Its a relatively new airfield I think - limited international connections but reasonably busy

Turkish Airlines A330 TC-JOG “Troy” if that helps?

Self loading bear 6th Jul 2021 21:19

Turkish Airlines A330-300 destination.

jensdad 7th Jul 2021 00:03

If TC-JOG were a freighter I was going to have a go at Vitoria-Gasteiz. But it isn't, so I'll have another even wilder stab in the dark at Nouakchott?

Asturias56 7th Jul 2021 07:33

Vitoria is closer than Nouakchott.......................

Putting two and two together and possibly getting 5….

Turkish route map and Sri Lankan FMA Pucara leads me to Colombo Ratmalana?

Asturias56 7th Jul 2021 16:52

Well it isn't Sri Lankan but it IS a Pucara (to my amazement - never did find out why it was there)

My answer above "Vitoria is closer than Nouakchott......................." applies in spades I'm afraid to Columbo. I'm not sure this is a regular Turkish destination - possibly a one-off

Self loading bear 7th Jul 2021 18:38

Uruguayan Pucaras have visited Brazil Natal airforce base.
(2010)
Are we in Brazil?

Asturias56 8th Jul 2021 07:54

No - Brazil is even further away The Pucara picture isn't recent

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....7cf3d49458.jpg

Asturias56 9th Jul 2021 08:05

IF the clue "Vitoria is closer than Nouakchott......................." then it's about 3050 kms from one to the other. Halfway is about 1500kms

therefore the challenge is within a circle of radius 1500 kms centred on Vitoria

Are we in Spain?

Asturias56 10th Jul 2021 07:53

Yes - this is the Kingdom of Spain

siftydog 10th Jul 2021 10:44

Hmmm, Kingdom of Spain… entonces Melilla?

The Google Earth image looks like it, but we'll have to wait for Asturianu to confirm of course. I did consider Melilla and Ceuta (that just has a heliport apparently) but the A330 put me off - that must have been right on limits if it is indeed Melilla (1433m of runway according to Wiki)?

siftydog 11th Jul 2021 07:02

Yes, I had a bit of trouble reconciling the A330 with that runway. Only other possibility I could think of was one of the newer Spanish airports like Castillo part developed, but the tarmac looks more weathered than that.

Asturias56 11th Jul 2021 08:12

It's definitely Melilla - I though the "kingdom of Spain " was about as far as I could go and still say on the right side of the truth.......... Sifty Dog has the controls

They've operated some quite large aircraft in there occasionally. Iberia have used A330-200's on some flights from Madrid in the past (maybe even as late as last year) - obviously NOT at max weight.

Strange place.........

Not a water aerodrome, but adjacent to a land aerodrome both then and now.
