Malden it is. Did the "grappling " clue help? An interesting recent (since 1920) history but maybe much more interesting in the future and certainly in the past, if you follow the reasoning and evidence in Menzies book 1421.

SLB takes the helm. .

Thanks, I took a stab at Malden Island as it was used as airbase in the British nuclear testing.
I did not find any picture of C-124 nor a Link to the Weizmann institute.

Now it seems that my challenge in the Name that flying machine needs a clue:
It is related to this Aerodrome:

Same spot some years later:

Quite right Asturias!

NAVO was the Nederlandse Automobiel en Vliegtuig Onderneming.
Located in Cuijk South of Nijmegen.

They had a field near Malden/Heumen/Mook of 1000x1000m.
This is not completely matching with the size and location of RAF airfield B91 De Kluis but must have been close by.
(Cuijk is south west of the river Maas and B91 De Kluis is North East of the Maas).

To the south East you can just see current glider field Malden.

NAVO’s main business was import and sale of German aircraft
Types mentioned are:
LVG C6
Albatros B2
Kondor Parasol
so such will probably in the first photo?

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....f061e6beb.jpeg
B91 was the only field on the European main land from which Meteors where operated during the War.

OUAQUKGF Ops 22nd Dec 2021 17:54

It would seem that the old aeroplanes were Kondor E111a - rather rare - but I stand to be corrected.

I also found this photo of chief pilot
Wende of NAVO

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....f70a5c54a.jpeg

Kondor Parasol wing fits the bill.

Lehigh Valley Airport? Previously named Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton Airport.

Asturias56 24th Dec 2021 08:14

Well that didn't last long! Yes - the nearest airport I could find to any Bethlehem.......................

Little Used Airport..........

Happy Christmas !

Asturias56 24th Dec 2021 09:08

Very interesting! Clearly tracks running across the whole airport area - so where can someone leave a big open space in the middle of a large town without redevelopment these days ? Somewhere the Military control things perhaps? The buildings and the bits of surrounding scenery look a bit like the Sahel to me - Africa as a starting point?

Tho that may be rice padi trop left......

OUAQUKGF Ops 24th Dec 2021 13:03

Not Africa. Runway length 6030ft. Civil, no scheduled services at the moment.

Typical scenery thereabouts....

Asia. Rice fields as previously observed. River to north of town name begins with Z. Shadow from Aviator's Memorial falls almost in parallel with R/W 32.

Do, despite everything, have a very Good Christmas Day.

Asturias56 25th Dec 2021 07:57

with a clue like that who can fail? It's Panjakent on the Zeravshan River in Tajikstan

Have a great day

and OH if correct

A happy new year to you, Asturias, and to everyone else who makes this my favourite thread on PPRuNe.

Looks like there's a lot of helicopter activity there, judging by the number of circles, although some of them overlap, which might be a bit worrying.
I'm thinking somewhere linked to the offshore industries, so I'm going for Den Helder...

In Den Helder all circles are lined up.
so not there.
I too think a professional heli outfit but I think a bit less strict as offshore.
