I'll give it a bit longer then post some clues. One hint - don't necessarily let the black and white image guide you - it was taken well into the era of colour. |
Looks to be a few 'derelict' airframes there. A crash practice area perhaps at Catterick.
OH if correct. |

OH if correct. Catterick (from a VGS glider) circa 1985. Here are a couple of other photos. Note the VGS gliding caravan at the threshold adjacent to the Hastings. The fuselage behind the Hastings is Buccaneer then (obviously) a Vulcan and beside that (if i recall) the remains of a much scorched Javelin and another Vulcan. Below that a photo of the domestic site. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....2a5f851511.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....74e9135063.jpg |
Here's one that is a long way from North Yorkshire:

the careful application of HS&E to allow a vast number of people to live literally at the end of the runway suggests SE Asia to me............. Indonesia?
|
Asturias,
Your thought process applies to this location, but it is not Indonesia. |
S E Asia then?
|
Nope - its Goma - much in the news - somewhere with big lake, that weird strip connection the terminal to the runway.......

Asturias has it with Goma. The original picture shows the 2002 lava flow which shortened the runway and inundated the taxiway, cutting off the terminal from the runway!
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....83c6891f51.jpg The recent lava flow came from the same vent system on the southern flanks of Mount Nyiragongo. It didn't reach the airport this time, but it did destroy hundreds of houses. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....c4b093e56a.jpg Airfield at the top left: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....4dcec56b9.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....5f4910abfe.jpg Asturias has control. |
Phew!
here's one a ways from Goma.......................... and any volcano! https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....dad263dc17.jpg |
Oklahoma is OK, perhaps?

Yes, there's a bright golden haze on the meadow

There are a lot of airfields in the Sooner State |
This airfield was active for long time but is no longer in use (at least for fixed wing - may be some ballooning occasionally ) ...................

Good shot!
yes - the late Hatbox Field - now a park/motor track etc etc - still do some ballooning there tho' AS we started with a song - lets all go out together.. "We don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee We don't take no trips on LSD; We don't burn no draft cards down on Main Street But, We love living right, and being free We don't make a party out of loving But we like holding hands and pitching woo; We don't let our hair grow long and shaggy Like the hippies out in San Francisco do [Chorus] And I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee A place where even squares can have a ball; We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse White lightning's still the biggest thrill of all https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....e7be52f0d7.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....ad27718ced.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....1374fcd94e.jpg |
