Indeed, the first photograph is a GA-21 with side-by-side seating. A very advanced training concept at the time, not to even mention the flaps.

Asturias56 17th Jan 2020 17:23

that engine installation look American to me................... another trainer??

zetec2 17th Jan 2020 17:24

That's got some P51 in it ?.

Quemerford 17th Jan 2020 17:35

Yes American, yes a trainer and I agree about the P-51 look, but apparently no link between the two.

dook 17th Jan 2020 18:01

The fin is a dead ringer for a P51.

dook 17th Jan 2020 18:24

Try Googling P51 designer and it will come up with Edgar Schmued………….

That kind of gives it away, but I have to admit I didn't know that bit.

Evansb, what was the info on the flaps above the wing, looked like dive brakes?

evansb 17th Jan 2020 22:27

Dear treadi, the Cunningham-Hall GA-21/36 was the first aeroplane to feature double motion wing flaps devised to lower landing speeds and not flying speeds.

treadi - post # 775

"It is the first plane to feature double motion wing flaps devised to lower landing speeds and not flying speeds. The GA-36 featured two cockpits and fixed landing gear. Cunningham-Hall tried to sell this design to the Army and Navy. Both declined, saying the aircraft was too expensive to produce."

It did!
it's a Morrow Victory trainer
Never heard of it before!

Quemerford 18th Jan 2020 16:11

That'll do: over to you :)

dook 18th Jan 2020 16:19

Off topic.

Whilst we have a break, can anyone tell me how to check incoming PMs on the new look site ?

Asturias56 18th Jan 2020 17:42

If you are logged in its the same as it used to be

Click on hte figure outline top right on the bar and select private Messages - then chose Inbox or Outbox

dook 18th Jan 2020 18:16

dook 18th Jan 2020 18:21

treadigraph 18th Jan 2020 18:49

Dook, is it perchance under the menu (3 horizontal bars) on the left of the dark blue PPRuNe title bar? That's where messages are on my smart phone.

Evans/Asturias - thanks, be interested to see how the system worked in flight - shame the aeroplane is in a museum but then again amazing it has survived!

dook 18th Jan 2020 18:54

Thank you all.

I have now selected all site and things are back to normal.

It must be either my machine or browser.
