Large aircraft (as if you hadn't worked that out!) this one was designed to meet civil standards but never made it into commercial service.

Noyade 9th Jan 2012 22:27

Four engines? (Sorry mate, no idea) Had a look around at clamshell thrust-reversers. The ones I've seen on the net open-close in the vertical plane (top and bottom). Can't figure out the wing either. Thought the wing position would reveal as a black dot somewhere in the vertical light slit seen where the two doors/shells meet. But no.

Russian?

Kitbag 10th Jan 2012 06:34

Four engined, not Russian, high wing, engine hangs off a pylon

MReyn24050 10th Jan 2012 09:15

Baade 152 perhaps?

Kitbag 10th Jan 2012 16:19

Never even heard of that one!

Just looked it up, interesting aircraft.

My subject fared rather better, entering series production, but not commercial service

SincoTC 10th Jan 2012 16:46

Evening Kitbag,

Haven't got time to delve at the moment, but I was wondering if it could be the Lockheed L-300 SuperStarLifter, the prototype only, civilian version of the C-141 ??

Kitbag 10th Jan 2012 17:14

It is actually a C-141, Lockheed designed it with an eye on commercial freight as well as military use hence the design standards, but no one was interested. It was a very successful mil transport.

Sinco TC has control.

SincoTC 10th Jan 2012 18:15

Thanks Kitbag,

My subject fared rather better, entering series production
Of course, that clue does point to the C-141, I misread it and thought you were after the failed commercial attempt!!

I've got to go offline for a while, so I'll declare an Open House and pick it up later if nobody else has taken the opportunity to pounce!! :)

Kitbag 10th Jan 2012 21:41

Should we try something a bit sexier than a freighter?

Noyade 10th Jan 2012 22:30

BAC 221?

Open house if so...

SincoTC 10th Jan 2012 22:32

BAC 221 at Yeovilton??

Edit:

A pounce if ever I saw it!! G'day Graeme :ok:

Kitbag 10th Jan 2012 22:41

It is indeed

SincoTC 10th Jan 2012 22:54

Evening Kitbag,

Well, seeing as I said I'd be back to pick up my OH and missed the chance, I'll take Graeme's OH instead and offer a choice of inlets on something a little older!

Hello TC, German?

SincoTC 11th Jan 2012 01:37

Evening Karl,

Yes, it is German.

Karlark 11th Jan 2012 01:57

Early morning Trevor,

Is it an Arado Ar-240? :)

SincoTC 11th Jan 2012 03:25

Back again after a short ZZZzzzzzz !!

Yes mate, it is the Arado Ar 240 :D
