Hi Kitbag. I went with the gentleman in the cockpit being German and thought of the Siebel Si-204. But now, more likely the Fh-104?

Not Italian mate, British.
Here's the full picture... http://imgbin.me/image/BKGYSRTK.jpg The engine was known as the Double Octagon. |
Gotcha, Sneaky use of an engine test bed there.
Hawker Harrier (no, not the noisy leaping heap) |
Hawker Harrier Interesting engine... Bristol Hydra - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
Thank you, if you hadn't named the engine though I'd still be thinking about carrier borne split axle aircraft!
It was an interesting engine too, more correctly known as the Bristol Hydra. Hopefully this will spark some interest: http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a.../Chall7Nov.jpg |
I immediately thought of one of those big Douglas or Curtiss contra-prop jobs, but....
...is that a low-powered Pobjoy? |
Yes it is

This will probably take me some time, however, Curtis R2 Racing biplane on floats?
|
Evening Kitbag. Greetings from a sunny Sunday morning. :)
I tilted the image slightly to fit the engine in and defeat google, so it's a taildragger and not a float-plane or from Curtiss. But it is from the USA. Planned to be a fighter. Metal construction. Three ordered but only one built. And as far as we know, this never flew! The early 1920's. The engine is a 350 hp Packard. |
