Experimental non-standard Flame Damper on a WW2 aircraft?
Certainly classed as a Flame Damper,Graeme, and is also of WW2 vintage.
Axis or allied?
Bomber or fighter? Standard fitting? :) |
Terrence, if I 'mentally' remove the damper from me mind :) - what's left, is what would/should identify the aircraft?
An Axis bomber aircraft,Graeme. I am not too sure that by removing the Flame Damper, it would readily identify the aircraft/engine type. The photograph is available on the Web.
Savoia-Marchetti SM-82 I believe. I am intrigued to know if it was fitted to only one of the three engines?
That is correct,Mel.
SM.82 Flame Damper of German design, but I have no idea if they were fitted to all three engines. YHC. |

While contemplating my navel, I considered the Narval....? Sud-Ouest SO.8000 Narval http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/4846/so80001.jpg |
Spot on, the Narval was intended to be a French shipborne fighter, the programme was abandoned after 43 flights and many issues.
