Duckbutt 5th Jun 2012 22:50

Long shot, could it be Mildenhall?

Noyade 6th Jun 2012 04:17

Sorry mate, but according to the caption, not Mildenhall

TheChitterneFlyer 6th Jun 2012 07:35

RAF Wittering.

Interesting that a different article states a different date...

On 8 July 1936, the first Royal Visit to RAF Wittering took place. This visit by King Edward VIII, accompanied by his brother the Duke of York and the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Edward Ellington, was also historic in that His Majesty flew in his scarlet and blue Rapide aircraft from his private aerodrome in Windsor Great Park to Northolt and then on to Wittering to become Britain’s first flying King.

Germany or Holland?

sabredog 8th Jun 2012 10:18

Sorry,Simon. Neither Germany or occupied Netherlands, some useful clues in the photograph though!

chevvron 8th Jun 2012 10:59

From the camouflage it would appear to be in GB, is that what you mean by 'useful clues'?

olympus 8th Jun 2012 11:52

RAF Fairlop, satellite to Hornchurch?

sabredog 8th Jun 2012 12:24

Indeed it is,Olympus. R.A.F. Fairlop, Essex,U.K.

Hampstead Norris?

sabredog 8th Jun 2012 20:24

Sorry,Chevvron,not Hampstead Norris.

SilentHandover 8th Jun 2012 20:52

RAF Scorton?

sabredog 8th Jun 2012 21:54

You are correct, SilentHandover.
RAF Scorton,North Yorkshire, was a satellite station of RAF Catterick.
Well done.
YHC.

chevvron 9th Jun 2012 04:03

Amazing; Catterick was minute compared to Scorton. I say 'was' because have you seen what the army have done there? Built houses along edge of the runway!! Shouldn't be allowed.

SilentHandover 9th Jun 2012 06:17

Thank you sabredog. Try this one.

jindabyne 9th Jun 2012 13:45

sabredog 9th Jun 2012 14:34

Not PNG, jindabyne. You are too far east.

Cows getting bigger 9th Jun 2012 16:12

I'm thinking Central Africa. Liberia, Congo, Sierra Leone.

sabredog 9th Jun 2012 16:41

Thinking along the correct lines, cgb.

twochai 10th Jun 2012 03:41

Warri, Nigeria?

sabredog 10th Jun 2012 06:38

Further south than Nigeria, Twochai.
It is a privately owned landing strip owned by a well known company.

Cows getting bigger 10th Jun 2012 08:12

Finally got it. I think it s the Shell owned airstrip, Rabi in Gabon.

OH if correct.

sabredog 10th Jun 2012 08:39

Your perseverance has paid off,CGB.
The Shell Airstrip at Rabi,Gabon,Africa,is correct.
CGB has declared;
Open House

Noyade 10th Jun 2012 09:38
