Might be a quiet day.

Any non-regulars around ?

About 30-40 years ago, there was a superb collection of photos on a mezzanine floor in the terminal, of aircraft that had passed through, with particular emphasis on the 1930s. The abiding theme was "He departed Gander on (insert date) bound for (insert European destination) and was never seen again...…………………….."

Perhaps too ominous for nervous passengers about to cross the Atlantic. The last time I stopped there, about 1991, the terminal had recently been redeveloped and the photos had gone. I do hope they have been preserved somewhere appropriate.

You mean the Atlantic Wings Collection as till 2001?
It has been moved.

SLB:

My memory is just of a collection of photos, not the other exhibits that your link shows, and it had gone from where I saw it at YQX well before 2001.

If Open House is declared, regular posters should not jump in immediately, but time should be given for those who are not great at naming the correct location as they may have some good images.
Does anyone feel we should remove this from "the rules " ?

No, not at all, keep it as it is.
Please note that this rule is not bound by the 2x24 hours.
So 4,5 hrs of Jenkins can be enough.

As OH has been called quite much lately, then I think the waiting time can be taken shorter.
There have been plenty of opportunities to jump on the wagon at any time of day.

If we have had a long string of non OH we must remember this rule.

(just my opinion)

So go Ahead if you have any ready.

The problem is that no timescale is stated.

It seems that "non-regulars" by definition hardly ever post anyway.

I do have some ready but...…..

dook 11th Mar 2019 17:42

OK - standby...…

Luton Airport?
I was gonna suggest Rearsby due to the number of high wing types visible but I don't think it is.

sycamore 11th Mar 2019 20:00

Marrakech...had a near-death experience there,`bushy-topped trees` are really just `bushy-topped bushes` in the desert..

Deffo Luton...learned to fly there courtesy of the lovely Elizabeth O....!!

dook 11th Mar 2019 20:08

Luton it is.

Top banana for chevvron.

chevvron 12th Mar 2019 10:46

Open house again.
Suppose I should have said 'not the original Luton Airport' ie Barton.

I think I can give the clue that by the looks of the flags, it is an international airport.

dixi188 12th Mar 2019 11:46

Is that two Danish flags on the right. Trees on a hill in the background with Nordic looking house.
How about Copenhagen?

oldandbald 12th Mar 2019 15:22

It isTHE Luton Airport not Barton. Old Farmhouse/ Directors House/ then Freds Bar in the middle

Self loading bear 12th Mar 2019 15:27

Not Copenhagen

evansb 12th Mar 2019 22:26

Antwerp, Belgium ?

sorry not Belgium either

That building in the Left background looks familiar. I'm sure I've seen it in another historical photo somewhere. Could it be Budapest Ferihegy?

chevvron 13th Mar 2019 05:48

Le Bourget?

dook 13th Mar 2019 09:54

dixi188 asked if the flags are Danish.

I've looked more closely and they look Swedish to me.

dook 13th Mar 2019 10:07

Googled "sweden flygplats b29" and a slightly cropped same image comes up but it doesn't tell me where it is. :(

Self loading bear 13th Mar 2019 10:30

I think the Swedish and Danish flags can look quite the same in black and white photography.
But I can also see Greek flag and Poland in the front and a number of vertical tricolores which can be Italy, France, Ireland, Belgium etc.
So leave the flags.

dook 13th Mar 2019 11:25

I have persisted with the flags in Photoshop.

This looks good:

Dook has control
Bromma Stockholm
First international Airfield with paved runways from its opening.
Degraded to GA airport with the arrival of the jet airliners because the runway was too short.
I think the B-29 could have only visited as it had no bomb load.
Nowadays again some international connections.

Not much changed as Terminal is protected historical building.

sycamore 13th Mar 2019 12:48

Moved to France...?

dook 13th Mar 2019 12:52

Unfortunately we have not.

clareprop 13th Mar 2019 15:24

I think we're in the USA with that windmill?

dook 13th Mar 2019 15:46

Now we're moving.

Self loading bear 13th Mar 2019 15:52

Luckily the USA is only a small country

dook 13th Mar 2019 16:00

Start to make it smaller then.

Self loading bear 13th Mar 2019 18:22

We split the states: Is in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico or West of those?

sycamore 13th Mar 2019 18:24

Probably `where the wind comes whistling up your shorts`....ok

dook 13th Mar 2019 18:35

Slb - none of those and to the east of them.

sycamore - if you mean Oklahoma it's not there either.

Ah, that might be where I've seen it then. Great challenge :)

Self loading bear 13th Mar 2019 18:44

Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas Louisiana or west of these?

sycamore 13th Mar 2019 19:01

Looks a bit dry...Texas...?

dook 13th Mar 2019 19:04

You should both go east.
