Good morning gentlemen!

I see some night-shift members been sniffing here around but left this old bone untouched….. :uhoh:.

HappyPass 24th Aug 2011 09:06

Morning Reg! All alone by yourself?

...a roadable?

if it is, it's not on roadabletimes.

RegDep 24th Aug 2011 09:09

All alone?
Not any more :ok:

Not roadable, but has a connection with cars :oh:

skwinty 24th Aug 2011 09:41

Czech Avia, Canadian Gregor, Hawker or Bristol?

RegDep 24th Aug 2011 09:52

None of the above.

HappyPass 24th Aug 2011 10:01

The connection is that it can be towed, is that correct?
Folding wings?

RegDep 24th Aug 2011 10:12

No the connection is its car engine.

Ridge Runner 24th Aug 2011 10:17

A Ford, perhaps? :)

RegDep 24th Aug 2011 10:31

Not a Ford engine. No way.

Give me the correct year and I'll give a solid clue. Deal?

HappyPass 24th Aug 2011 10:36

Deal.
19...2... ...6?

trucky04 24th Aug 2011 10:49

The undercarriage looks like those used for bombers. (bristol TB.8) Year would be around 1914??

RegDep 24th Aug 2011 10:52

HP, you blunderbus sniper :E

Trucky, far smaller than a bomber. Your timing is closer than HP's, though. Correct decade.

trucky04 24th Aug 2011 10:54

Yes but this type of undercarriage was installed to some aircraft to accommodate bombs. Bristol TB.8 / GB.75

Arado 24th Aug 2011 10:59

how about 1910?
Hispano-suiza engine, maybe?

RegDep 24th Aug 2011 11:00

The timing is drifting the wrong way. No H-S.

Maybe need to add that the builder was not happy with his original car engine and went over to an Anzani later.

Not the least interesting feature of this machine is its engine—xxxxx. It is placed vertically in the machine, with the cylinder heads pointing forward so as to ensure even cooling. (The engine is aircooled.) At the upper end of the vertical crankshaft is a bevel gear which serves the double purpose of transmitting the power to the horizontal propeller-shaft and of giving a 2 to 1 gear reduction. The weight of the engine is somewhat great for its power, compared with modern aero engines, but it is stated by the makers that reliability has been their first consideration, and that they consider this of greater importance than low weight. The engine weighs 220 lbs., or slightly over 4 lbs ./h.p., but it is claimed to be as reliable as a car engine, and to require very little attention.

Edit: Hah! You are on a good site already, Trucky :ok:

Lightning Mate 24th Aug 2011 11:18
