Thanks, S'land. Even harder to reconcile the imagery now! Shame that the Earharts, Lindberghs and Roosevelt Jnrs now have a bloody great shopping mall to commemorate their efforts...:hmm:

I'll be back with a new challenge soon.

nacluv 5th Feb 2009 18:03

OK - try this one. I used to live about 2 miles from this place back in my mid-distance past.

I'll kick off with Chilbolton.

nacluv 6th Feb 2009 11:37

In the best Roy Walker tradition - "it's a good answer, but it's not right!" Not Chilbolton, I'm afraid.

Think it's a fighter base due blister hangars and fighter type blast pens/dispersals. Main Hangars look black, prob T2s. I would say UK. Intriguing....Long long shot - Atcham in Shropshire?

WebPilot 6th Feb 2009 13:10

Direct hit on Atcham, I'd say.

Cunningly turned upside down in the shot :-)

nacluv 6th Feb 2009 13:37

Indeed - direct hit sir!

Well done - my cunning ploy to rotate the picture was sure to be found out sooner or later. And yes, the black blobs are indeed T2s.

Atcham, in 1946 I believe, just down the road from me a few years ago: the road specifically being the B4394, which these days runs down the lower half of the NE/SW runway. Shame so little now remains...

Sid - you have control!

aviate1138 6th Feb 2009 13:39

Picture taken on 6th May 1946 - at a guess......

Doh! 9th May!

nacluv 6th Feb 2009 13:41

9th May 1946, actually...

You found it on Wikipedia too, eh? ;)

sidtheesexist 6th Feb 2009 20:31

Nacluv - thank you. Open house folks!

Phileas Fogg 6th Feb 2009 22:53

This one shouldn't be too difficult:

chevvron 7th Feb 2009 13:05

Chipping Warden?

Phileas Fogg 7th Feb 2009 15:08

Not Chipping Warden

Flap40 7th Feb 2009 15:42

How about Beccles?

Phileas Fogg 7th Feb 2009 18:36

I knew it wouldn't last long, Beccles it is, an active airfield despite it's appearance!

Flap40 7th Feb 2009 19:09

Many thanks.

Try this one.

Montford Bridge (Forton)

Flap40 8th Feb 2009 08:28

Didn't last long!

Your turn.

flyingwing 8th Feb 2009 08:53

Thanks. It helps when you fly over it regularly. Here's another that I think is straightforward.
