Thanks, S'land. Even harder to reconcile the imagery now! Shame that the Earharts, Lindberghs and Roosevelt Jnrs now have a bloody great shopping mall to commemorate their efforts...:hmm:
I'll be back with a new challenge soon. |
OK - try this one. I used to live about 2 miles from this place back in my mid-distance past.

I'll kick off with Chilbolton.
|
In the best Roy Walker tradition - "it's a good answer, but it's not right!" Not Chilbolton, I'm afraid.
|
Think it's a fighter base due blister hangars and fighter type blast pens/dispersals. Main Hangars look black, prob T2s. I would say UK. Intriguing....Long long shot - Atcham in Shropshire?
|
Direct hit on Atcham, I'd say.
Cunningly turned upside down in the shot :-) |
Indeed - direct hit sir!
Well done - my cunning ploy to rotate the picture was sure to be found out sooner or later. And yes, the black blobs are indeed T2s. Atcham, in 1946 I believe, just down the road from me a few years ago: the road specifically being the B4394, which these days runs down the lower half of the NE/SW runway. Shame so little now remains... Sid - you have control! |
Picture taken on 6th May 1946 - at a guess......
Doh! 9th May! |
9th May 1946, actually...
You found it on Wikipedia too, eh? ;) |
Nacluv - thank you. Open house folks!

Chipping Warden?
|
Not Chipping Warden
|
How about Beccles?
|
I knew it wouldn't last long, Beccles it is, an active airfield despite it's appearance!
|
|
Montford Bridge (Forton)
|
Didn't last long!
Your turn. |
Thanks. It helps when you fly over it regularly. Here's another that I think is straightforward.
