Incredible shot, was that a long lens used, or an extremely skilled (read: lucky) pilot?
If it's as close as it seems, I'm not sure I would be standing on that ridge watching. There are safer places in this world surely?

I suspect that this photo has been doctored!
No one in there right mind would stand near an aircraft dispensing fire retardant, it's not pleasant stuff to be covered in.
If there was a fire, why were the ground crew standing there admiring the aeroplane instead of getting out of the way?
Was the pilot pissed and missed the target altogether?

Yowie, yes that is the Mars. More info available at the Forest Industries website www.martinmars.com/. Some of the stats are pretty impressive. The best day they had, they dropped a million liters of water with one aircraft on one fire.
The bean counters wanted to close the operation down, citing the high cost of aircraft upkeep. What they fail to realize is that in one sweaty afternoon, one aircaft can save five million dollars worth of timber from going up in smoke.
Niknak, I dunno about the first photo. There may be some foreshortening caused by a telephoto lens. The Mars photo is no fake. The guy used a 55mm lens.

niknak, the Neptune shot is genuine. As pigboat surmised the use of a telephoto lens produced the forshortening effect.
