I'm thinking the word 'Via' (Roman highway), and maybe the word 'mob' (a group of kangaroos), might be involved somewhere but I'm darned if I know the name of the airfield.
Note for fellow puzzlers: despite the marsupial clue, mgahan hasn't stated that it's in Australia. Although the red soil and their location in Melbourne would tell me that it probably is...

Well north of the Nullabor and the deduction it is in Australia is correct.
I'll post a picture of the ATS facilities when I worked there many years ago later today. . At the time I was there is was in the middle of Appian Way.

The ATS facilities were in place for six weeks, operating HJ except that the UHF frequency was NOTAM'd off 0700-0830 local because the GENSET could not handle the additional load when breakfast was being cooked. and on Tuesday afternoons when the "tower" had to revert to its original purpose as the Flying Doctor's clinic.

Good challenge. That took some finding.
After seeing the 'hi-tech' military approach to the ATS system I took a stab in the dark and googled Ex Appian Way and found this:
https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/F04590
That led me to the challenge site; Mount House Airport.
Not sure of the marsupial connection though.
OH.

Well done. Mt House it is.. Several fond memories and plenty of lessons for a very junior RAAF ATC. Over to you lauriebe.
The marsupial connection is that Appian Way was the precursor to the Kangaroo series.. Thought some of the older and bolder Aussies might have picked that up, particularly the regular contributor who spent six weeks there driving one of the Caribeaasts. .

Where's this tower?
Close but no cigar. Never heard of the airport or the city!
