The 748 is still flying out of Pickle Lake , and Red Lake Ontario . Testimony to the genius of Avro Engineering .
Still lots of Airframes left , surprised nobody has not converted them with newer noisemakers .

Of 67 built l would guess that there are no more than 20 still flying and most of these will be with West Atlantic Cargo. I don't think any that went to India are still active but there may be a couple still soldiering on in Indonesia.

Vague recollection of several out of sequence allocations being granted before the general free for all started in the mid 1970s - G-VTOL, G-BSBH, G-BJCB plus the BOAC Concorde allocations were all quite well known, but I think there were one or two earlier examples in the 1950s/60s. Earliest was probably G-EDCA (Director of Civil Aviation, Sir William Sefton Brancker), allocated to two separate DH-60s when the G-EAAA-EBZZ sequence was allocated prior to the modern register commencing from G-AAAA in 1929.
Edit: yes, forgotten G-BSST!

I would be guessing as I am not sure . I have seen only three in the last while . The biggest issue is getting engine work done as the only shop still providing service is in New Zealand . Just looks like the Saab engines might just bolt right on , same high thrust lines

Ahhhh - well after 1914 then!
I think Noyade needs to name the challenge tho! Not sure that's the most comfortable (or quiet) cockpit I've ever seen
PS "you can see a bit of an aileron" yes - that was what turned me to a later design than the Earlies.
