Guess what this is:
Raglan is a small town on the west coast of the north island of NZ (about 38South). I couldn't help noticing this aircraft nose sticking out above the door of a shop. What is it? Maybe a twin comanche?

Possibly off an early Baron, some had air intakes like those but the slot at the back doesn't fit with the nosewheel bay that I can see.

Think it's actually a Travel Air - some have the right kind of intakes, there is some sort of exhaust just forward of the nose wheel and it has latches which have been used to mount the nose. Presume there was a cabin heater in the nose?

I should add that size would be less than a metre in diameter and length. Perhaps closer to 80cm. So I think that would exclude a jetliner.

Photo shows it before being sold to New Zealand in 1995, cancelled from the NZ register in 2001, presumably scrapped.
Don't be fooled by that cut-out - it's not for the nosewheel bay (that's aft of the radome/bulkhead) and it's also slightly offset from the aircraft centreline (perhaps the outlet for the radar cooling air?).

There are several installations similar to this.In the town where my parents live,Bognor Regis,there's a bar with the front-end of a Bandeirante sticking through the wall/ceiling,and in Fleet ,Hampshire there was a restaurant called 'Dakotas',which was adorned with several substantial components from the eponymous aircraft.When it first opened,the tail+empennage was sticking out of the adjacent pond,but was removed after reports to the police of a 'Plane'crash from passengers on the railway which ran alongside.Following the demise of Concorde,I went to an auction,where Bonhams were selling surplus items on behalf of BA,the proceeds going to charity.If I remember correctly,a restaurateur from Florida paid a six-figure sum for a new,replacement nose-cone.

Back in 1984 somewhere in Florida, St Petersburg or Tampa I think, I came across most of a Cherokee or similar sticking backwards out of a diner or night club. Might have been near Peter O'Knight Airport where the C-17 landed by mistake a few years ago. Slightly different but I also vaguely recall a C172 in the trees alongside US1 somewhere down the Keys. 1001 things to do with a superannuated light aircraft...
Did think about visiting Paul Nalson a few years ago and see if he had any light aircraft fuselages suitable for use as a garden shed!

Using rather more of a Baron you can do this...

I have seen a desk from a Spitfire wing tip. I think actually a replica. Then, surprisingly I saw a second one in an estate agent in a German supermarket. I wonder if the lad knew what it was.
