Turbofan engine ID please?
I took this photo in the 1990's, but can't remember where.
I think it's either from a B747 classic that had a fairly dramatic birdstrike at Montreal, or from a VDA An124 that had an engine failure leaving Stansted for Osaka?
Any help narrowing down the engine type would be appreciated.

DH - it's not a roller as the blading indicates the shaft rotates the wrong way and there aren't any service pipes in the annulus.Could still be PW or GE on a747 Classic. Damage at rear of LPT doesn't look consistent with a bird strike to me.

That is just the sort of answer I was looking for Janner200, many thanks. The 747 I mentioned was a BA machine so i guess was equipped with RB211's?
Looks more like the An124, of which had numerous engine failures when they first arrived on the western scene.

BA's 747-136s had JT9Ds. Their 747-236s had RB211s.
